Hard to tell: Without seeing you it is hard to tell what is normal and what is pathological. I would suggest having a dentist look at you to give you a diagnosis. Good idea.: It may be nothing but a blocked salivary gland. Stop any drying medications you may be taking like decongestants (sudafed, afrin, (oxymetazoline) etc). Drink more fluids (without caffeine or calories), suck on lemon drops to make more saliva and keep your appointment. ...Read more

Good 1st step: Tongue swelling can be due to many reasons but when it doubt taking benadryl (diphenhydramine) is good first choice if no medical reasons to avoid antihistamines. If this has been ongoing for awhile there may be a blockage at the salivary glands or even the veins that drain that side of the tongue.
