Not necessarily...: Typically, your child will be sedated during the test ; will have no recollection of it. Afterward, he/she may burp or pass flatus from air used during the exam to inflate the GI tract. Since we don't know circumstances as to why your child needs testing its impossible to predict findings nor anticipate what else may be present that can contribute to post-testing soreness/discomfort. Best wishes. ...Read more

Is it ok to have colonoscopy with a head cold and sore throat?

Is it ok to have colonoscopy with a head cold and sore throat?

It may not be very: Comfortable but there is no specific restriction for this procedure. You will receive some twilight anesthesia so potentially this could be a reason to wait as well as the potential to infect the operators and nurses doing your procedure. If it is elective it would probably be in the best interest of everyone involved for you to wait until you are back to full health. ...Read more

Stomach ache: Pain just below ur breast bone and above ur belly button is usually epigastric...stomach. If scopes clear you may have gastritis or intolerance to certain foods. Dysphagia: The symptoms you describe are concerning. The endoscopy can only tell you information about the anatomy and not about how the swallowing mechanism is functioning. A swallowing study (modified barium swallow study) may be necessary to figure out what is the problem. A formal swallowing evaluation would be important as well. ...Read more

2 days post colonoscopy, with no biopsy, blood or fever, is upper left quadrant stomache soreness and pain gas related, and when to get it checked?

Pain: ... Is not usual after a colonoscopy. It is possible to have some gas related pain, but that should not cause soreness and should resolve within 1 to 2 days after the procedure. If you have any fevers, chills, bleeding, or worsening of the pain, I would call your gastroenterologist or go to the ER immediately. Otherwise, your soreness should be resolving within the next day or two. Good luck. ...Read more

Getting better/worse: ?? if worse, would definitely go see your GI doc. Did you get constipated after the procedure perhaps? Sometimes straining can lead to more painful hemorrhoids. It: It is not likely. During a colonoscopy, the scope is inserted into the rectum and into the colon, and there is much space between the colon and lumbar spine. Any complications with your back would have been felt immediately post procedure if any part of your body was traumatized. It sounds like you have a sensitive back injury of your lumbar spine, and you should see your doctor to investigate this pain, since your surgery was not too long ago. ...Read more

Generally quite safe: Many patients complain of the discomfort of drinking so much liquid: nausea, vomiting, bloating, explosive diarrhea. But only VERY rarely do serious things like seizure/palpitations/kidney failure occur. The large volume of polyethylene glycol solution is safest; the smaller volume oral sodium phosphate solution should not be used; it has been linked to dangerously low phosphate levels. ...Read more
