Probably not herpes: Assuming you have had oral herpes (cold sores, fever blisters), then no worries about herpes for your sore throat and pain on swallowing. A new oral herpes infection could cause these symptoms, but not longstanding infection. Probably you just have garden variety viral pharyngitis. Possibly Strep or a : Virus. For significant sore throat with swollen tonsils / lymph nodes – see physician & get a strep throat test/ culture. Throat pain: your cough may have caused some acid from your stomach to regurgitate into your throat/pharynx causing irritation.
