My tailbone hurts when I sit in certain positions, so much so that I often prefer to stand?

Coccydynia: Pain in the tailbone (coccyx) is most often caused by the simple act of sitting and, therefore, can be quite aggravating. Physical exam, dynamic sitting/standing xrs, mri/ct, and diagnostic injections can help confirm the diagnosis. A sitting cushion with a cutout ('doughnut') can help alleviate pressure while sitting. Surgery via excision (coccygectomy) is rarely ever indicated.

Coccyx pain: Tail bone pain is most commonly associated with sitting a lot, not so common when standing thought that can happen. I would suggest seeing your pediatrician for a recommendation for an over the counter medication to help you out.

Why does my tailbone hurt when I sit and then when I get up or sneeze?

See your doctor: If this is not getting better with time, see your doctor. This can be a tough problem to treat, but proper diagnosis is needed for treatment suggestions. Your doctor can do that or refer you to a specialist.

Sometimes, when I sit down, my tailbone hurts a lot, and I feel a little "crack" in it. Is it normal or should I be concerned?

It will get better: Tailbone pain, or coccygodynia, is commonly caused by trauma, and its probably the hardest problem for me to treat personally. It's hard to access the area so there's little to do but that also means that even if there is a fracture or subluxation, usually we recommend patience and activity modification (stand more and use a cushion for sitting). No casts, no injections, maybe an antiinflammatory.

Yes: First I want to congratulate your new healthy living program. You have added many more years to your life. The problem at hand is that the fat that was around your coccyx is not there any more to protect it. Using the donut is smart. Give your body time to adjust, it may take about a month. In the meantime taking a medicine like Aleve (naproxen) or Advil may help relieve your discomfort.

Severe pain in tailbone. Hurts to sit and stand. Just noticed swelling. No known trauma. Help.?

Tailbone: Bu tailbone I assume you mean the coccyx. These are painful and if you have noted swelling then there has to be some inflammation. Please see you doctor for help, in the meantime use ice.

Yes: When you fall on the bottom, you can cause various injuries to the ligaments attached to the tailbone. In rare instances, you can also break the bone. For the vast majority of patients, the pain goes away with time, sitting on a pillow, and if you do not have a history of ulcers, the use of otc medications. If the pain does not subside within a week, , consider seeing your doctor.

My tailbone hurts and sticks out?

My tailbone hurts and sticks out?

I will try to help: Let us assume the problem in the tail bone it self (no hemorrhoid, fissures, cysts) around the rectum. 1-keep your bowel soft. 2-sitez bath once a day if you could. 3-air daunt to set on. 4-some medication for inflammation (advil (ibuprofen) or other). If did not help try injection of steroid there by orthopedic surgeon. This could be doing again if it help. 5-last surgery to remove the part which bothering yo.

My tailbone hurts sooooo much. What should I do?

My tailbone hurts sooooo much. What should I do?

Coccydynia: Tailbone pain can occur with or without injury. Only real concern is to exclude a sacral tumor (extremely rare). If bowel/bladder habits normal, probably ok. Treatment included nsaid's, and a sitting pillow. Not a doughnut, but a foam wedge with triangle cutout. This keeps you sitting leaning forward without pressure on the coccyx. If persistent, removal is rarely needed but successful.

What can I do if my tailbone hurts and I don't know why?

See your doctor: Various reasons why this can hurt. Get evaluated. For some, getting a u-shaped sitting pillow, or a donut pillow to sit on is a very helpful way to off-load the coccyx (tailbone) as it heals.

What do you suggest if my tailbone hurts! (easy 10 points)?

What do you suggest if my tailbone hurts! (easy 10 points)?

Tailbone pain: Tailbone pain is frequently caused by degenerated lumbar discs. Other causes include hemorrhoids, a fracture of the sacrum (usually occurs after a fall and there is significant osteoporosis) and sacroiliac joint inflammation. An MRI of the lumbar spine and pelvis can help identify the source of pain. A spine specialist can help you treat the pain.

Coccygodynia: Various etiologies have been described for coccygodynia. The most common are falls resulting in direct injury to the sacrococcygeal synchondrosis. These can occur either from a kick, an injury on a trampoline when one hits the bar or springs that surround the trampoline jumping pad, or falling from a horse or skis. Try nsaids and heat.

I'm temporarily in a wheelchair and right below my tailbone hurts. Could this be sciatic nerve?

I'm temporarily in a wheelchair and right below my tailbone hurts. Could this be sciatic nerve?

Not likely.: More likely a pressure lesion from sitting more than usual; can lead to a coccygeal decubitus ulcer, which is serious. Get this examined by your doctor.

Tailbone hurts 9 months after injury, what's wrong, should I go see a doctor?

Tailbone: A tailbone injury usually heals quite quickly, if still present after 9 months I would see either an orthopedic or neurosurgical specialist for further evaluation. You might have a fracture that has not healed and may need some further treatment.

Tailbone hurts noticed it when I laugh. Getting over a flair up cause of my uc and been tryin to hold it in. Could that be why I have pain?

Coccidynia: Pain in tailbone is called coccidynia -dynia is suffix meaning pain of or associated with area of body or bodily process. A fall on or strain of tailbone could result in pain in area as could inflammation. Inflammatory bowel disease (ibd) conditions like ulcerative colitis can be associated with inflammation in joints and bones. A trial of anti inflammation medication, ice & cushion is a start.

I have an aching pain in my coccyx I sit down a lot and wonder if I may have coccydynia?

This is a common: Symptom or presentation and can usually be seen in females without a history of trauma or injury. Avoid sitting for prolonged periods especially on non cushioned surfaces. If it persists, get it checked out by your physician.
