My Stools Are Hard To Pass
Have colostomy bag hard time passing stool trying to pass stool what can I take to make it happen stool is hard
Yes: A lot of 9 month old babies begin to rely more on food and less on liquid for their daily nutritional needs. Very often, a baby gets a bit constipated at 9 months due to a decrease in their fluid intake. Adding some extra formula, breast milk, water, or even water mixed with a small amount of prune juice or white grape juice can often solve this problem. If it persists, consult your doctor. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

My stool is always thick heavy pasty but soft but it's still hard to pass. What can I do to get my stool to become more light and loose?
Fiber, fluids & exer: I don't know about making your stool "more light" but you can't argue against fiber, fluid & exercise to keep from being constipated. Ideally, you'd get your fiber from your foods but there are also fiber supplements available along w/stool softeners, too. Don't worry about consistency as long as you don't have to strain. Check w/your doc re need for colonoscopy (low risk vs high). ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I have soft pasty stool but it is extremely hard to pass. I don't go to the bathroom often and I am never able to pass very much and incomplete evac.
Some options...: Colonics & purges are popular but should be avoided & can not be recommended (see earlier healthtap answers). Use of irritant laxatives are safe for the short-term only. Fiber supplements, stool softeners, & lavage agents like MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) are safe. Rx drugs are available based on work-up of your cause of constipation--rule out pelvic floor dysfunction, dysmotility, partial obstruction. Time for eval. ...Read more

Fiber: Try to consume 25-30 grams of fiber daily through diet modification and supplements. You must drink plenty of water throughout the day with the fiber for it to work. 1.5 weeks bad constipation. Can feel solid mass of stool that wont pass, but soft stool and diarrhea do pass. What can I do about this? Is this normal?
A few suggestions: If you haven't tried any agents, the easiest on the stomach is MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) or its generic equivalent. Also milk of magnesia works as well, but can give stomach cramps. Be sure to drink lots of fluid/water, as dehydration makes constipation worse. If stool is in rectum, can use suppository like dulcolax or glycerin. An enema can help too. ...Read more
