My Son Have A Productive Cough And A Running Nose
See advice below.: Use saline nose drops and suction the mucus from the nose as often as needed (if he can blow his nose, do that after saline drops). Also, elevate the head of the crib or bed. If your doctor ok's it, use a humidifier in the room during sleep. Cold and cough meds are proven not to help and can cause severe side effects. If these actions don't help enough, he needs to see his doctor. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Productive cough is a symptom in which a person feels there is mucus coming up from his chest when he coughs. Viral Infection: The most likely cause of a runny nose, cough, and fever is a viral infection. It is possible for these symptoms to be related to a bacterial infection that would require antibiotics, however most physicians will advise to wait 24-48 hours before considering prescribing and antibiotic in the absence of any other definitive symptoms that would suggest a bacterial infection. My son(2 1/2 months) and i (19) been having a running nose, heavy breathing, and a slit cough. Is there anything we can do or take?
Nasal saline: For your 2 1/2 month old, i would not recommend an over the counter cough preparation. If the cough is mild and associated with nasal congestion, keeping the nasal passages clear with saline and a gentle suction bulb is helpful. Babies like to breathe through their noses rather than through their mouths. Follow up with your doctor if the cough persists or for worsening symptoms. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

My 2.7year old son has a bad cold, running nose (mucus) and cough. No fever. Unable to sleep properly since 3-4days now. What medicine to give?
Not much: For a child this young, I would recommend against any prescription cough/cold medications and even over the counter cough/cold meds as these can have significant side effects and are not shown to be effective. Simple home remedies like warm water with honey and lemon before bedtime, breathing in steam in a hot/steamy bathroom before bedtime, and Tylenol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen for any pain/fever relief. ...Read more
