That may be adequate: But usually Strep throat is treated with Amoxicillin 2x/day for 10 days. Is it Amoxicillin or Amoxicillin/clavulanate (Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate))....Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) is "stronger", so 8 days of that would probably be fine.

My son has a strep infection on his bottom, can we get strep throat from that?

My son has a strep infection on his bottom, can we get strep throat from that?

Depends: Which strep? Group A strep is the common cause of throat infections and is occasionally seen as a perianal skin infection. In theory if the germ contaminates the kids clothing and gets on your hands it could pass & cause strep throat. There is a strep B that is a common germ in poop at any age. It occasionally causes UTI's in women & can be a problem during childbirth but is otherwise benign

My 5yr old son has extremely dry skin on his feet, its starting to really peel. He got a real high fever from strep throat, and that brought on a rash, that lead to the dry skin. Wanting to know what I can get to help his dry feet

Often: Often times when a person has strep throat they develop a rash. This rash is caused by a toxin that's released by the strep bacteria. It sounds like that rash has subsided and has left behind the characteristic dry peeling skin. Don't worry this is the normal course for this type of rash and the peeling and dryness should subside completely after about 10 days or so. In the mean time keep his skin clean and moisturized. Try thick emollient creams, they usually come in a jar, or plain vaseline. Be patient; in time he will be completely back to normal.

My son has strep throat, he is now showing symptoms of a head cold He said his head hurts when he shakes it and hurts most of the time, is this normal?

My son has strep throat, he is now showing symptoms of a head cold He said his head hurts when he shakes it and hurts most of the time, is this normal?

Typical: Headache is typical for strep throat, it is a definite part of this illness. You can treat the headache with motrin 10 mg per kilogram per dose every 8 hours. If he has strep he should be on a course of penicillin for 10 days.

My 9 yr old son has strep throat and a kidney disease called IgA nephropathy it's a kidney disorder started when he was 5. Kidney biopsy?

My 9 yr old son has strep throat and a kidney disease called IgA nephropathy it's a kidney disorder started when he was 5. Kidney biopsy?

Confusing question: Although some strep strains can cause kidney problems, early treatment usually avoids them. If the kid has a pre-existing kidney problem, the need for a biopsy is best determined by the docs who know him best. A recent strep infection would not require such an invasive procedure, but a significant change in kidney function might.

I feel very scared & guilty my son had an untreated strep throat that went away 6 weeks ago. How long until it is completely behind us I worry everyday.?

I feel very scared & guilty my son had an untreated strep throat that went away 6 weeks ago. How long until it is completely behind us I worry everyday.?

Hard to say: The earliest problems with untreated strep often come up within the first 2 wks & effect the kidneys. Rheumatic fever/heart & brain effects are more likely to be 4-6 weeks out from the first fever. Either way, as you pass the 6 wk marker without known issues you may have been lucky. The estimated attack rate for major complications of untreated disease is 1-2%. Subtle effects may appear later.

My son Dom has strep throat hasn't improved for 5 days now could this be something more serious?

My son Dom has strep throat hasn't improved for 5 days now could this be something more serious?

He most likely has: A virus along with the strep. If he has a fever and/or is not eating/drinking/appears ill, I would recommend contacting his doctor. He may need to be seen to diagnose him properly and make sure there isn't additional treatment needed.

My son was diagnosed with strep throat fri its monday and he's still running a temp is this normal?

My son was diagnosed with strep throat fri its monday and he's still running a temp is this normal?

Maybe: If he started antibiotics friday, then after 48-72 hours he should be better. If it was a virus and not a strep infection, the fever could last for a week. Check with the diagnosing doctor for follow up.

Strep thorat: You are probably a carrier of goup a streptococcus bacteria that causes strep throat, one of the recommnedations for recurrent infection (more than three episodes in a year) is tonsillectomy, the episodes of infection lensens over time regardless the measure taken to prevent it, treatment with antibiotics is not recommend to prevent recurrence either.

My son is 8 years old and his stomch hurts after having strep throat now he want eat?

Let him eat: It is not uncommon for children with strep throat to experience abdominal pain because of inflammation of peritoneal lymph nodes (on the lining of the bowel). If he is not nauseated by this and is expressing hunger, feed him bland foods or start with liquids to see how well he tolerates it.

My son was diagnosed with group c strep throat. He is coughing now. Does he need an antibiotic?

My son was diagnosed with group c strep throat. He is coughing now. Does he need an antibiotic?

Depends: Strep A is primarily treated with antibiotics to prevent a later transition that some have to Rheumatic fever. This condition can injure the heart, brain while some have kidney damage. Strep C does not have this potential and in many will produce a mild self healing process. If it were moderate or severe antibiotics might be indicated to aid the body in reducing/clearing the infection.

My son has had a sore throat for 2 days and diaherria Could he have strep throat?

My son has had a sore throat for 2 days and diaherria Could he have strep throat?

Maybe/not: This could easily be a throat virus, since many are associated with diarrhea. Strep is possible with any sore throat but more often causes belly pain without diarrhea. Only proper testing can sort these out.

What can I do for my 16 month old son he has strep throat and he is very whiney and sleepy?

What can I do for my 16 month old son he has strep throat and he is very whiney and sleepy?

Strep or viral: The kids with sore throats eventually get over symptoms ; feel better if treated or not.Motrin helps most feel better. However, complications of untreated strep include heart, kidney or brain injury ; the risk of spreading it to others. Having a strep test done ; getting treatment if positive within 9 days of initial fever can stop most complications.

My son just recently had strep throat and now he has these large bumps on his tongue. Can u tell me what us that?

My son just recently had strep throat and now he has these large bumps on his tongue. Can u tell me what us that?

Possibly normal: If they are on the back of his tongue and they do not hurt, then this is normal. We all have several very large taste buds (called vallate papilla) on the back of our tongues, but rarely realize they are there. Now that you are "looking" because of the strep throat you are noticing these taste buds. If they do hurt then have him reevaluated by his doctor.

Yes, it is: It is not prudent to treat your own son unless you are a physician. If you have the results that are positive for strep, at least call or visit your pediatrician. Good luck.

2 or 3 at the least: In the 'old days' we used to withhold tonsillectomy unless children had many antibiotic failures in a row, but based on the age of your child (you didn't tell us the age

My 8 yr son has been diagnosed with positive strep throat a few days ago, he's better now but he feels a ball like sensation when he swallows?

My 8 yr son has been diagnosed with positive strep throat a few days ago, he's better now but he feels a ball like sensation when he swallows?

Return to Doctor NOW: Typically Strep Throat infection improves greatly within a few days after starting antibiotics. Persistence of swallowing symptoms suggests there could be complications such as incomplete response to medication (unlikely for simple strep throat), presence of another infection, or tonsillar abcess (serious). Return to doctor NOW for re-evaluation to determine cause for persistence of symptoms.

My son tested slightly +ive for strep throat Fri. He has been taking amoxicillin 3xs a day. He is still complaining of headaches. Is this normal?

My son tested slightly +ive for strep throat Fri. He has been taking amoxicillin 3xs a day. He is still complaining of headaches. Is this normal?

Slight positive is: Positive so he does have strep and is in his third day of treatment. You would expect his symptoms to improve by the fourth or fifth day so he is still in the window for persistent discomfort. He should not, however, be worsening. If he is, return to your doctor.
