Got rashes on one leg a week ago, doc said shingles n said my 2yr old son can get chickenpox but he didn't. Is it normal? Or can be wrong diagnosis??

Shingles: Your son probably has had his first chicken pox shot which will give him some good protection. Not touching or getting near your shingles helps him not get it also. Read more

See a pediatrician: And do this asap. Bone pain in a child this age can (although not always) suggest some very severe and rapidly progressive conditions in association with fever. Do not ignore this. Go and see somebody now. Hope he is better soon. Read more

Need more history: In that the above information is insufficient to make a specific diagnosis. How much sun exposure? Is son fair or olive skin? One joint or multiple? Injury or none? Appearance of rash, possible contact or exposure, history of eczema, etc. If chronic and feeling fatigued, start with a physical by your doctor and blood tests may be helpful. Read more

HC and Lotrimin (clotrimazole): This may be either eczema or fungus. You could try a combination of lotrimin (clotrimazole) and Hydrocortisone lotion twice a day. If it imporoves greatly within a few days, continue for a few weeks. If not, see a dermatologist for a correct diagnosis and treatment. Read more

If he has a fever...: ...It could be a virus, and you should see your pediatrician. If no fever it could still be a virus, or he could have come in contact with something he's allergic to, possibly something floating in the air like dust or pollen. It could also be a reaction to a medication or food. You can try some 1/2% Hydrocortisone cream, but if the rash persists you'll need to see your doctor. Read more

Insect Bite Allergy: Most probably it is insect bite with cutaneous allergic response. He might have scratched it which is causing oozing. Keep the area clean, give some anti itch medicine / cream. Make sure, it is not tick bite with spreading red rash, changing places. Then he will need evaluation by his pediatrician. Read more

Circular rash: A circular rash speaks more against an allergic reaction and speaks more some other cause. A fungus comes to mind and the possibility of granuloma annulare as a possibility is possible. Granuloma annulare is a benign rash for which we have no idea what causes it. Read more

Rash: Do you know what caused the rash? Easiest thing for someone that young is benadryl (diphenhydramine). You can use a topical steroid but they really shouldn't be used under age of 12. Contact dermatologist or podiatrist if it persists. Read more
