My son has a lump on his neck wot could it be the doctors said it nout could it be cancer as someone I know had one and it turned out to be cancer.?

Depends: It is not unusual for kids to get some swelling in the lymph nodes in the side of the neck during a cold. We call this "reactive adenopathy" The tenderness concerns me however. Lymph Node: This is probably a lymph node within the cervical chain in the neck. These commonly pop up to fight colds and upper respiratory infections.
