Probably surgery: If having pain related to duplication cyst probably need surgery, in adults when duplication cysts symptomatic, difficulty eating, reflux, or back pain can occur.Cysts can hemorrhage, rupture, and get infected. Once symptoms begin usually do not resolve. Complete surgical resection is the standard treatment even in patients with asymptmatic cysts. Kidney cyst: is a common incidental finding, usually of no clinical concern. Cyst next to esophagus not very common, if they are sure it is just a cyst it may simply be a congenital duplication cyst or other benign cyst, also probably of no significance. However, it may be worthwhile to ask your doctor about the cyst alongside the esophagus just to be sure. ...Read more

My CT scan shows a 2.3 CM bronchogenic cyst located next to my esophagus about the 10th intercostal space (Radiologist). Doc says CT normal. Really?

Benign conditon: It is not a "normal" CT, but they did comment on the presence of the bronchogenic cyst, that is how you know it is present. These are rare, and can lead to coughing, weezing and pneumonia, or be asymptomatic. The comment of normal probably menas that the remainder of the CT is unremarkable. You can ask to have the radiologist amend his report. ...Read more

My little sister found out she has ovarian cysts. Are they harmful?

My little sister found out she has ovarian cysts. Are they harmful?

Probably not: For women who are still in their reproductive age range, and not on some form of hormonal suppression (birth control), the normal job of the ovaries is to produce eggs every month, and the eggs develop in cysts. So, many ovarian cysts are normal, functional (healthy-even!). If one has pain and a larger than 'normal' cyst is found, or if it is 'complex'-f/u sono &labs can check if it may b harmful. ...Read more

Birth control pill: I suspect that your sister doesn't live in the States b/c Rigevidon (http://www.drugs.com/international/rigevidon.html) isn't sold here, at least not under that brand name. However, there are many combo birth control pills consisting of same medications. Of note, bleeding/spotting is common side effect especially in 3mo of new pill as body adjusts. If still concerned, have her see prescribing doc. ...Read more
