My poop has been green for a week, I've had diarrhea, fever, and abdominal pain. What should I do?
See a doctor: That's probably not the answer you want, but it's the right one for the situation you describe. Fever, abdominal pain and diarrhea could be caused by a number of things. Many will get better on their own but some need to be treated and there is no way to know which without good old fashioned medical care. Call and make an appointment. If the pain is severe or you are dehydrated, consider the ER. ...Read more
Not to worry: The color of the stool can be influenced by bilirubin excretion in the GI tract, the foods you eat, and also your gut flora. Green stool is not by itself worrisome. Are there any other changes? Are you having abdominal pain? Are you having diarrhea? Blood in the stool? If no other symptoms then I would not be concerned. ...Read more
Probably not.: Green stool is usually not a concern. If your stool turns black, however, it can be a sign of internal bleeding, which can be more common in people on ibuprofen. If the stool change persists or your stool turns black or reddish, see your doctor or go to the ER immediately. ...Read more
I am supposedly about 7 1/2 weeks pregnant. For the past few days my poop has been green! Is this normal? What does it mean?
Something you ate: It's not uncommon for poop to change color, likely due to something you ate (blueberries?). Not likely due to pregnancy. Having said that, foods like blueberries and kale and spinach, are great during pregnancy. Getting the majority of your nutrients and vitamins from foods rather than taking a vitamin is always better. Good luck and have a great pregnancy! ...Read more

I have been pooping green for almost 3 weeks. Only having about three or four brown poop in that time.
Green stool: The green is bile that is traveling too quickly through your intestine for the bacteria to turn it brown. I started having green poop for like a week. I know green poop can back to normal now. So why would my poop be green and white?

Please help I'm 30 a female and been having green poop for a week haven't had any vegetables and cannot go to dr I'm worried it's something bad?
If it persists...: If a normal, healthy person has unusual changes in stool consistency, color, or frequency, she should record the symptoms on a large calendar, and review it with her primary care doctor. Include on the calendar what foods were eaten each time the stool got green, what activities were done, what meds were taken, what drinks, etc... Sometimes gall bladder problems cause changes in stool color. ...Read more

Green stool: If the stool was loose, the reason for green stool could be too rapid a transit time in the gut. Eating green leafy vegetables can lead to green stool. Diaper rash: When in doubt, it does not hurt to double check with md. Green is not often a color that is associated with poop- unless they are eating green- however, diaper rash can develop into a more serious situation as there are bacteria in the poop and it is a moist area- so a 2ndary infection my develop. The area can be very sensitive over time- so- to play it safe, double check. ...Read more

Why does my 6 week old have really dark green and really thick poop sometimes has a little bit of yellow in it?
Baby is 2 months her poop is green, sometimes green/yellow with seeds like the first week she was born with the seeds. Is this normal?
Pretty common: The greenish color in stool is the breakdown product of the bile when it has not been in the gut long enough to go through a change to yellowish or brown. It is normal as is the loose consistency. Some digested material will take on a darker tint than others & the germs in the gut will also impact the final product. I'd ignore the whole issue. ...Read more

My 9 week old son poops once every 10 days. Yet, he's pooped 3 times in the past three days, 1 for everyday, andhis poop has been bright green/watery/stringy. Could therebe a problem?
Probably ok: Frequent, loose, sometimes greenish stools in infants indicate "rapid transit" of stools that can be due to host of issues but unless he is not eating, having fever, appearing ill may resolve with just observation or care with the diet if other foods have been introduced. If adding new foods this may be part of the problem but not necessarily mean they have to be stopped if this problem resolves. ...Read more

Hello doc! I am 12 weeks pregnant but as I observed I am pooping green just this few days.... is it normal?
Pigment: If you're taking prenatal vitamins containing iron, this could be the cause of the pigment change. I would be more concerned if your stools were very black (also seen with iron or peptobismol), bloody or clay colored. If you still have concerns, discuss this with your obstetrician and he/she can perform a stool examination. ...Read more
