My platelet count is 140. Should I be concerned? Can I raise it through diet?

My platelet count is 140. Should I be concerned? Can I raise it through diet?

Near normal: Normal platelets counts are 150000 to 250000, so 140000 is near normal. If you do not have abnormal bleeding, e.g., easy bruising, bleeding from gums, blood in stools or urine, there is no cause for concern. It would be good to know your complete blood count because if other blood components are also low, then it should be investigated. ...Read more

What can I do to counteract my low platelet count with adjusting my diet?

What can I do to counteract my low platelet count with adjusting my diet?

Food Matters: I would find out why they are low: do you have an immune condition? A blood problem? Make sure your B12 level is adequate; that you are not taking supplements or drugs that lower platelet count; and that you know the reason: once that illness or condition has improved the platelet count may come up along with it ...Read more

What diet or food should I have if I have a blood platelet count of 542? Thank you doctors of haelthtap.Com

Fix the problem: What is the cause? That is the question you have to answer. If you have low iron -then your will need to fix the iron ; find out why iron is low. Once iron is normal- platelet will be normalized by itself. If you have infection, then antibiotic should be given for infection, then platelet will go down by itself. No special diet you should do to fix platelet. You need to fix the underlying problem. ...Read more

Discuss w/ ur MD: Go to see your md. Your md should evaluate you to find the cause of elevated platelet. We can't tell you what to do or give any advice-from a very limited information. Elevated platelet can be due to different conditions including reactive process to infection, inflammation, bleeding, iron deficiency vs other causes -i.e. Primary bone marrow problem etc. You've got to go to see md and get checked. ...Read more

Perhaps wait...: Have you had low platelets chronically, or just this one time. It is encouraging that you are not anemic. How is your white blood cell count. You could be slightly low with regard to platelets due to a number of causes, such as viral suppression (transiently can shut down bone marrow) or itp (antibodies to platelets). I would check your platelets again in a month if you have no symptoms. ...Read more

When are hemotologists concerned about platelet count?

When are hemotologists concerned about platelet count?

Less than 20,000: There is actually no magic number but most hematologists would worry about a platelet count less than 20, 000 especially if associated with signs of bleeding. Platelet counts lower than this have the highest risk for internal bleeding that could be life-threatening. The chronicity of the condition causing the low platelet count and the associated symptoms help the doctor decide on how to manage it. ...Read more

What does a platelet count of 13 mean? Should I be concerned?

Low platelets: It depends on the unit but in the United States this would typically mean 13,000 platelets per microliter which is very low and is associated with a very high risk of bleeding. There are many causes but this needs to be evaluated and treated urgently as this would be considered a medical emergency if the cause is not known. ...Read more

My last blood test showed my platelet count as 122K (just gotten over a cold a few days prior). Since normal range is 140-400K, should I be concerned?

No: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, your result is not a cause for concern. Your doctor can repeat the test in a few months. ...Read more

Should i be concerned with a platelet count of 451and a monocyte level of .7?

Likely not: Don't worry about the numbers. By the way, do you have any symptoms? How is your period? Heavy? What is your hemoglobin? Your platelet is slightly elevated- which can happen if you are sick, catching a cold/viral infection, or if you have bleeding/ heavy period/ if your iron is low etc. Just f/u with your doctor and repeat the blood again in the next few months ...Read more

Got routine bloodwork. Platelet count was flagged at a count of 429. Is this normal? High? Should I be concerned?

Not much: It is likely that you are iron deficient. For an unknown reason iron deficiency is associated with high platelet counts. Even if your hemoglobin is normal, you may wish to take oral iron supplement available over the counter. ...Read more

Bloodwork indicates a mean platelet count of 6.8 (should be 7.4-11). Should i be concerned? Take a lot of goody powder. Could that cause?

Questionable info: The information you provided about platelet count is not in keeping with the usual reports. It would be useful to have the original lab report. "goody" powder contains Aspirin which interferes with platelet function and even a normal count may be associated with poor platelet function. ...Read more

Just had a CBC done and my platelet count was 361, should I be concerned?

Just had a CBC done and my platelet count was 361, should I be concerned?

Likely not: Typically, a normal platelet count in a healthy individual is between 150, 000 and 450, 000. Oftentimes, bloodwork results will list the actual number in the hundreds (i.e. 361 like your case), implying a result of 361, 000. However to confirm, i would review the results with the ordering physician. ...Read more
