Menstrual Cycle (Definition)

The menstrual cycle begins with the shedding of the uterine lining, resulting in bleeding from the vagina. A few weeks later, one ovary releases an egg and the uterine lining thickens in preparation for a potential pregnancy. Pregnancy can occur at this stage if sperm fertilizes the egg. If the egg is not fertilized, the egg will leave your body and ...Read more

My period is on time but much lighter than usual, could I be pregnant?

Take the test: If you want to know if you are pregnant, take a test. In today's world you do not need to wonder if you are pregnant or not based on symptoms. Pregnancy tests are available at any pharmacy and in minutes you will have your answer. They can detect a pregnancy 7-10 days after conception. The best time to take one is when you miss your period.

Unlikely: There is low chance for pregnancy at this stage of your cycle and the light period is most likely not caused by pregnancy at this point. It might be just a slightly different period. If you did not use protection, I would still wait a couple of weeks and test for pregnancy to be sure. If you don't want to get pregnant, you should consider using condoms (which will protect your from an STD too)

I'd bet 'No! ': Having a period - even lighter than usual - should be the key. All the pain symptoms you note have zero to do w/ it. Did you have unprotected sex? If you don't want a baby or STD, don't! But this time you seem to be not pregnant - You can waste $ on a test if you want. Best wishes!

You bled: I am not sure what you specifically mean by "some symptoms". It is never a good idea to be ambiguous when communicating a question to a physician. You have had four tests that say you are not pregnant. It sure sounds like you need to figure out why your ovaries have shut down and stopped ovulating.

Unlikely: If you did not miss your period, you are unlikely to be pregnant. If you did miss your period by more than 5 days you may do a home pregnancy test. Use first morning urine and follow the instructions for the test carefully.

Possibly: Take a home pregnancy test. They turn positive within 72 hours before the start of your expected period. If it's negative, repeat in 1 week.

I had unprotected sex about 5 days ago and got my period the next day but only lasted 4 days but is usually 7 days, it was lighter than usual and then just stopped. Could I be pregnant?

Unlikely, but...: It can be hard to tell if a woman is pregnant because some of the symptoms seen in early pregnancy can also happen in non-pregnant women. That said, a 4-day menstrual period is likely a real menstrual period. If worried, one can do a urine pregnancy test, which gives a reliable result about 3 weeks after sex (3 weeks after when conception might have occurred), or 1 week after missing a period.

Home pregnancy test.: Take a home pregnancy test. The average monthly risk of pregnancy from unprotected sex is ~20%. If you want to decrease that risk, speak to your doctor about all the birth control methods available. Best of luck!

Tubes tied but having pregnancy symptoms could I be pregnant period due 7/21/17 last period lighter than usual?

Tubes tied but having pregnancy symptoms could I be pregnant period due 7/21/17 last period lighter than usual?

Unlikely: Current Bilateral Tubal Ligation procedures include cutting out section of tubes, burning ends, then applying metal clip to end, which makes natural reattachment almost impossible, and surgical reattachment very difficult.

Below: Prob not with the period you are describing. If you are concerned, wait one week and do a HPT. If you are having sex without contraception, you will eventually get PG.

Ovulation: Two things here. You failed to tell us if you fooled around when you were ovulating. This is vital information that every menstruating female should know by heart. And second, bleeding represents not pregnant if it occurs at a time when your normal period should happen. If you have any doubts you can do a pregnancy test, but I would bet given the bleeding that you are not pregnant.

Had period at expected time, not as painful as usual and it was a lot lighter, lasted the normal 4 days. Is it because I'm on b/c pill or pregnant?

Pill: The oral contraceptive pill actually produces a "period" via hormone withdrawal bleeding. Moreover, the endometrial lining is not as thick when on the pill which is one of the secondary methods of contraception by preventing inadvertent implantation. All of this is true only if you have not skipped any pills and if you have run a pregnancy test.

Highly unlikely: Fetus won't survive with menstruations as the uterus lining is shedding and there is no place to implant. With shedding, blood gets expelled from the vagina.

Not likely: Not all periods are the exact same as far as timing, length, or heaviness. Nature just is not that perfectly regulated. You had a period and have a negative pregnancy test. I "never say never", but it is very unlikely that you are pregnant.

Pregnancy (Definition)

When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more
