Get ear plugs: You have one good chance to deliver a baby ; begin to train it to separate from your body. If you rock it to sleep or carry it everywhere, it decides that is the only way it can exist. Feed the kid as it wakes, do body maintenance, play until tired ; then put it in a crib when sleepy. Read or sing to it from nearby until asleep.Pick it up only to begin a new feeding cycle 2 hours later. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
What do I do about 13 yr old son's anger. Hits out at me and his 11 yr old sister. Has counselling. Stays in bed when not at school.
My two, almost three year old daughter still wakes up at night. Normally starts to cry until she's in my bed with a sippy. I don't want to let her cry?
Why: Infants & toddlers can learn the important skills of self settling & self sleeping if allowed during the first weeks after birth. It may become hard when they enter the separation anxiety stage if they haven't been allowed to gain the skill. You may benefit from ferbers book "solve your child's sleep problem". By three she knows she needs sleep, but you are fostering her continued dependence. ...Read more
What do you expect?: Breast milk has many wonderful qualities ascribed to it, but it is not a panacea. It provides great nutrition as you have already known. The tired and true treatment for nasal congestion in infants is the put saline nose drops in the nostril, then suction it out with a rubber bulb syringe or a nosefrida (www.nosefrida.com) to make him comfortable until he gets over his virus on his own.Hydrate also ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I have a 19 month old ... He used to be two napper but now he does not take one nap .. He sleep in my lap but when I put him jn crib he wakes up?
Habit: Your child has learned that his favorite place to fall asleep is while you hold him. When babies are little, many parents rock them to sleep. Over time this becomes their signal to relax. When you place him in his crib he sense it's not your lap and cannot relax. When he looks sleep put in crib - he may fuss for awhile but let him learn to fall asleep in there. ...Read more

Hard to tell...: "jumping in his sleep" usually means a child moves around a lot in his sleep. That happens in many kids, but can happen more often if he had a rough day (got poked a few times). "since he had his 1 year old shots" doesn't say how long after the shots (1 day, 1 month, 1 year, etc.), so it is hard to tell if anything is related to getting poked. If related, maybe the legs are sore or he is dreaming. ...Read more
My boy friend id 17 years old and he got in a four wheeler accident this past summer and his back is hurting his parents eont tske him what can i do?
Question isn't clear: If a 17 year-old has back pain that is moderate pain or worse, or is having trouble moving around or doing sports, he needs an evaluation. If parents won't take him due to lack of money or due to immigration status, he can ask a local Teen Clinic, which is often connected to the County Health Dept. or to a medical university. Three year old cries in her sleep and sometimes wakes up crying but wont say why she's crying and now she doesn't want to sleep in her bed. ?
She may not know: If your daughter does not wake immediately when you touch her she is in the midst of a "night terror", an anomaly of sleep like sleep walking. If she wakes immediately it is a nightmare & she will remember specifics.Night terrors occur in deeper sleep & kids have no memory of them.If you shake her awake you likely frighten her. Helping her get as little as 1/2 hr more sleep/d can stop the events. ...Read more
My 3 mo old sleeps in her carseat bc she can't lie flat due to a cleft palate. When put on her back in crib, won't sleep. How does this affect sids?
Car seat fine: A semi- upright posture in the car seat can lead to airway problems in some frail infants or those with posterior tongue position(robin anomaly). For most, this position avoids the increased sids risk of prone sleeping and may be the best choice for some with a cleft. When the kid has improved mobility and or the kid has recovered from a cleft repair, crib based sleeping may be more realistic. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

My daughter is 7 months & cries a lot when I put her down in her crib to sleep and throws herself around. Shes not use to sleeping alone. What do I do?
Train her: Crying is the only way kids can tell you their opinion at this age. Crying is not harmful to babies who don't have a history of heart or brain problems. So have a soothing bedtime ritual then put her down and walk away. Let her cry it out even if it is for 1-2 hrs this will gradually decrease over a day or two and she will be trained. Most important is not to let her see you when she is crying. ...Read more
My two year old is getting in his six year old molars and he already has his full set of 20 toddler teeth. Should i be worried?
Possibly.: The 6 year molars, also known as the first adult molars, typically come in at ages 6 or 7 years old. If they are coming in at age 2, this is far out of the normal range. The very first thing i would recommend would be an appointment with a children's specialist called a pedodontist to verify that indeed, what you see are the first molars. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
