My One Month Son Was Given More Than The Recommended Dose Of Gas Drops He Seems Fine But Should I Worry
My one month son was given more than the recommended dose of gas drops he seems fine but should I worry?
Problems not likely: It is unlikely that the gas drops whose active ingredients is most commonly simethicone will cause any harm. However, there is not any legitimate medical evidence to show that this medication in infants is actually effective so you may want to discuss with your pediatrician the need to continue. ...Read more
Should I take him to the ER or his doctor my 7wk old son has been crying for the last 4hrs nonstop. He wasn't eating nor taking his pacifer. I've given him mylicol infants gas relief drops and tried a warm bath but nothing is helping. He weighs 13lbs and 5
By the date of this post about 4 days has gone by, so hopefully you have made contact with the doctor and your baby is better by now. For the future, and for others reading this post, if your baby seems very irritable and uncomfortable, and your instinct tells you that something is wrong you should contact your doctor. A phone call to the doctor's office after hours will put you through to a nurse or on call doctor. They will ask you a series of questions and advise you on the next best course of action (er visit or next day doctor's appointment).
Take good care. ...Read more
My LO is 4 weeks old and she is grunting and straining all night and all day. When I put her to sleep she is fine for one hour but after that she starts grunting and straining. I tried giving her gas drops and gripe water but I guess this helped only for
May be her normal: Infants often make odd sounds and seem to strain in the usual course of their day. If she is feeding, sleeping, stooling and growing okay I would not assume she is in pain. If the process bothers you enough, have her doc examine her to see if there is any issues to treat, if not, let her be. ...Read more
My 8 yo son is having more frequent bm and is burping a lot with complaints of gas. The dr is unsure but recommended trying prilosec. Thoughts?
May help: But gerd would most likely not cause more frequent bowel movements. It is possible that he has developed lactose intolerance, which has an increase occurrence after seven years of age, so he is in about the right time frame and the symptoms fit as well. Try avoiding dairy for a few days and see if that helps. Best of luck and I hope that helps him out! ...Read more
Gas: All babies have gas. They swallow air when they cry, when they suck, and when they eat. Eventually, they learn not to swallow so much air. Burp him frequently during the feeding, but don't be too concerned if you don't get a burp every time- it will come out one way or the other. If he is really uncomfortable, ask you doctor about using simethicone drops. ...Read more
My son is 2 and a half years old and he suffers from gas problems only at night. I give him colicaid drops. Suggest any other solution if any.
My 3week old son seems to have gas pain he's on enfamil gentelease and gas drops and Zantac (ranitidine) n nothing seems to work. What else I do or use? Please help
Try this: Try 24-36hours of nothing but pedialyte for feeding. No formula. As much and as often as he wants. There is nothing in pedialyte to cause gas. If the gas is eliminated, then he is having a formula reaction and there will be another that he can tolerate. If no better, consider acid reflux or another cause of the fussiness. See my other answers regarding " colic" and consult with your pediatrician. ...Read more

My father died a few months ago. Since then, I've had some heart palpitations one or twice a day, gas, and general anxiety. Could it be gad? Should I worry about the palpitations?
Grieving heart: Sorry you lost your dad and please accept my sincere condolence. You should check these "palps" and GI symptoms with your primary care physician. They may be related to anxiety however it is better and safer to first make sure your physical health is sound. Best wishes to you. ...Read more
Done a CT scan and was diagnoses with a lot of gas, everything else being fine, I was given pancreatine, what could be the cause of low pancreatine?
Chronic pancreatitis: I do not believe that you have chronic pancreatitis because the CT scan is described as normal, also you do not mention that you have diarrhea or greasy stools. However, if you doctor has prescribed Pancreatine, it is possible that he was thinking that you might have chronic pancreatitis. Increased intestinal gas formation can be caused by other than chronic pancreatitis conditions. ...Read more
Been constipated for 5 days. Took exlax at the recommended dosage yesterday and again today. No results but forced gas. Would a higher dose be bad?
Miralax/Peri-Colace: You might want to try Peri-Colace, as this has a stool softener which might help - since it sounds like you're quite constipated. If you have a fecal impaction, see your doctor straight away. Also, if you take chronic pain medications - talk to your doctor as an ongoing treatment might be good to prevent this from happening in the future. Hope that helps! ...Read more
When are oval drops given for gassy babies? Before gas to prevent it or wait until passing gas occurs? Same question for gripe water
When you please: I'm not convinced that either do anything for babies but it does give moms something to do, and some swear by them. ...Read more
I ve had neurologic reactions to low doses of local anesthesia 1 2 of a small vial or carbocaine and also epinephrine topically fine with lidocane an alergist advises using gas from now on however I have a root cnal and several deep filing replacements am
A safe choice: Would be to have a dentist do the work in a hospital setting with a board certified anesthesiologist. You will be monitored during and after the procedure for complications. One option for you that avoids local use would be to have general anesthesia. Not a common choice for root canal, but maybe appropriate in your case. ...Read more
I ate pasta (6 days old). Within 10min I had sharp gas pains. I had gas & one green soft stool & was fine. Food poisoning? Concerned 7 weeks pregnant
Nothing to worry about. This episode shouldn't affect the pregnancy in any way. Usually with true "food poisoning, " the symptoms come on after at least an hour and we see much worse symptoms because you are essentially consuming harmful bacteria and their toxins, which will cause both diarrhea and vomiting. Probably what you had was just a reaction to food that was a little "spoiled." ...Read more

Dull lower left abdominal pain. No fever, no nausea, and it is not tender. I am still passing gas fine also. Should I worry?
I am extremely bloated and full of gas, I lost my son 4 months ago so very stressed what medication would be best?
Sorry for your loss: So sorry for your loss. This situation is obviously very stressful. For the bloated and gas- you could take an acid-blocker, or antacid-combined with an anti-gas formula or both. Acid blockers such as zantac (ranitidine) or pepcid- are histamine blockers, and Prilosec or Prevacid are proton pump inhibitors and will help reduce the acid. Simethicone will help with the gas. Mylanta or Gaviscon are antigas/antaci. ...Read more
My 19 months old son wakes up in the middle of the night screaming in pain. He arches his body n throws himself around in pain til he passes gas. Why?
Constipation?: That sounds miserable for both of you! Constipation is exceedingly common in this age group, and it may be difficult to determine how severe it is. It can cause these symptoms--but there are other causes. Best to have your Pediatrician examine the child in-person, and see if testing or treatment are needed. If your child drinks more than 16 oz milk per 24-hours, that's a good place to start. ...Read more
It depends: Gas & vomiting may be unrelated. In order to best advise how to manage your son's condition a complete history is needed. Vomiting in infants can be associated with esophageal reflux (which they often outgrow), formula intolerance (possible allergy) or sometimes more significant problems. Without a full history and physical exam it's difficult to advise what course of action to take. ...Read more

My son is 6 weeks old and has very stinky farts and his poop is very watery and is orange. I breastfeed, what's causing the stinky gas?
My son 11years old everything he eats, he can just start eatting and have gas, why? No pain just gasie.
Flatulence (gas) is caused by undigested or partially digested foods traveling to the large intestine, where they are fermented (digested and metabolized) by the bacteria that colonize our colon, often producing gas in the process.
The most common gas producing foods include: cauliflower, brussels sprouts, dried beans, broccoli, cabbage and bran. ...Read more

My four year old son has been complaining about his stomch hurting with gas its been going on alot lately, what can it be, and how can. I treat it?
Needs evaluation: The causes of potential causes of abdominal pain in children are to numerous to narrow down without a more complete history and physical exam. Treatment will depend on the suspected cause. Malabsorption, allergy, infection, gastroesophageal reflux and anatomic anomaly are a few examples. Your pediatrician can help you sort this out. ...Read more
