My One Month Son Was Given More Than The Recommended Dose Of Gas Drops He Seems Fine But Should I Worry
My one month son was given more than the recommended dose of gas drops he seems fine but should i worry?
Problems not likely: It is unlikely that the gas drops whose active ingredients is most commonly simethicone will cause any harm. However, there is not any legitimate medical evidence to show that this medication in infants is actually effective so you may want to discuss with your pediatrician the need to continue. ...Read more

My 19 month old has had diarrhea for the past three days. Her fluid intake is the same as usual but she is eating less than normal. Should I take her to her doctor?
Why not?: Doctors are often taught that parents know their children best, and that when there is a significant change in their behavior, particularly when they are unable to clearly vocalize the reasons, it is prudent to follow up and make sure that nothing significant is taking place. On the other hand, this may well be a viral illness which will resolve quickly. ...Read more

My grandson who is 22 months old has an iron level of 8. Just diagnosed and put on iron drops should I panic he eats nothing but seems happy and healthy. He poops only every 5-7 days since birth, doc says that's just him, but i'm worried
Iron : Iron deficiency anemia is not uncommon in toddlers. Sometimes it's because of a lack of dietary iron (red meat, leafy greens, fortified cereals) and sometimes it is because a child is drinking too much milk (a 22 month old should have no more than 20oz milk/day). I assume that the iron level of 8 that you are referring to is actually a hemoglobin level which is a red blood cell measure we use to assess iron. A normal hemoglobin level in most labs is 11-14. A level of 8 is low, but not a reason to panic if the child looks good. When we see a low hemoglobin level in a child on routine screening who is happy, healthy, and growning well, we often put them on iron supplements and recheck a level in a few months. There are various other uncommon reasons for a low hemoglobin and if the iron drops do not work, then your child's doctor may want to do additional testing. The infrequent bowel movements appear to be a separate issue and i would call the child's doctor to discuss solutions to this problem if he is having hard, dry, painful stools. 7.5 month old daughter was given 7mls amoxicillin twice a day for 10 days. She is 14lbs 14oz the amount seems real high to me. It is for pink eye, and?
Hard to say: You have not provided the strength of the med (amoxicillin) or a clear reason why it was used . Proper dose is higher for things like an ear infection that it would be for a bladder infection. There is more than one strength of medicine available, so giving the amount without the strength does not give us enough info. ...Read more

I gave my 3 year old calpol for a temperature only realising it was 6 months out of date later on! Can it be harmful or is it just less effective?
No: Not harmful and likely just as effective. The expiry date often is stated as earlier than the true expiry date. All the best and I hope he/she feels better. ...Read more
My 2 year old has had spewing diarrhea temp of 35.6 degree for 3 day. He acts fine one minute then asleep the next. What do you think is happening?
May have given my 2yr old 1tsp Advil within four hrs instead of 6-8, issue? I am so nervous. I can't exactly remember what time it was when i gave him the other dose. Should i be heading to emergeoncy room. There hasn't been any noticeable reactions but h
Any : Any time you have a question about your child getting too much medicine, it's always best to call poison control - they can provide immediate information about the medicine. The number (nationwide) is 1-800-222-1222. Generally we dose medicines for children by their weight - so if your child is about 20 lbs, 1 tsp is a good dose. Likely, your child will be okay, but i still would recommend that you follow the 6 - 8 hour dosing schedule for the future! a lot of doctors recommend alternating Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen - I am not a fan of this. As a mother, when my children are sick with a fever, i can never remember at 3 am what i gave last! i tend to stick with one (ibuprofen) and only use the other (acetaminophen) if my child is having fevers before it's time for the next dose. I hope this helps! good luck. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

How do you treat constipation for a 12-year-old? He has not had a bowel movement for three days. He took two doses of "little tummies" OTC medicine the first day with no effect. He's been drinking juice and water more than usual. He recently allowed me
The : The way i treat constipation in my clinic is to use a medication called polyetheylene glycol (miralax). It is now available over the counter. The nice thing about this medication is that it melts and softens the hard stool making it much easier to pass. You may want to try 1 cap full or packet in a large glass of water and see how that goes. You should not use more than 1 dose a day without speaking to your child's doctor. Below i've linked to a website with information on this medication. If constipation becomes a more chronic problem for him, then you should make an appointment with his doctor. Good luck! ...Read more
My 3 yr old had her 2nd dose of mmr and dtap/itv but she didn't have it full dose as she moved her and some spilled out, so should I be worried ?
No: Her vaccines are booster doses, meaning she already had prior doses and developed protective antibodies. If she gets a partial dose, she will still get some antibody boosting effect. If thinking about this too much, just plan to get another MMR and a DTaP-type vaccine before entering Kindergarten (that's the usual time for these vaccines in the U.S.). Getting an extra dose won't cause a problem. ...Read more
My son was given a full dose of synthroid-125 mcg today because of miscommunication. His normal dose is 62.5 mcg a day. Should he be seen?
If my baby was really fussy after the last year’s flu shot, is it okay for him to have one this year?
My daughter was prescribed 1.5 ml amoxicillin (400mg/ 5 ml) twice a day for 10 days for strep. She is 24 pounds, but that seems like a low dose. She takes her last dose tomorrow, but we still have 1/2 a bottle!
Strep & amoxil dose: Current guidelines are 50mg/kg per dose with a 500mg per dose limit for twice a day dosing. Your daughter is 11 kg so her dose is 550 mg twice a day or 500 mg per dose due to dose limit - or 1.25 teaspoons per dose twice a day - a teaspoon is 5 ml . She was underdosed. Check with your doctor - she may need a strep culture to see if she's cured before giving additional meds. ...Read more
