Breast poopers: Breast fed babies can have a little smear with each feed or have one big blowout every 7-10 days It relates to the ability they have to process their feed .Bottle fed kids will poo more predictably & should go daily. If the poo is soft it is not considered constipation. I don't get hung up on babies timing, I like to look at them to see how they feel. ...Read more

My 8 month old was recently constipated to where we had to give her a suppository. She went right away. Now she has yellow seedy runny poop? Normal?
Yes: It is common to have looser stools after getting a suppository and the initial constipation is resolved, particularly if you were giving her lots of fruit juice or water over the past few days in an effort to treat the constipation. Make sure that she is urinating and acting normally, and that there is no blood in her stool. Her stools should be back to normal within a few days. ...Read more
Usually normal but..: Poops can happen after every feeding, but they can also happen every few days (up to 10 in a breast fed child), and frequency can change at random. The child's mood, appetite, weight gain, urine output, and other factors are more important than poop frequency in determining the level of concern. ...Read moreSee 4 more doctor answers

Simple measures: You can help baby go by coating a q-tip with vasaline & inserting it the length of the cotton & moving it in a circle. Not unusual: infants can have periods of constipation lasting several days, especially if breast-fed , so long he feeds well, urinates, don't worry much, you can gently measure his temperature rectally with a lubricated thermometer, that would stimulate his bowels and would pass stools, follow up with his Pediatrician/ Family physician if still concerned, good luck ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I have a 7-week-old baby. She'd been pooping at least 1x day, but it has been 3 days since she pooped. She does pass gas & has wet diapers. Is it ok?
Depends on situation: If baby is breast fed they may stool a little smear every feeding or one big crib full once a week. Breast milk is so well digested that it may not leave much behind for poo to form. If it is soft, the frequency of stooling is not important.Formula babies go more often.Your babies pattern sounds pretty normal. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Reflux: It sounds that your baby may have reflux. Your pediatrician will be able to better determine the next course of action. In the meantime, make sure you burp your baby frequently with feeds and keep his head elevated higher than his tummy for at least 30 minutes after each feed. Be sure to check in with his doctor soon. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
It's possible: It's possible that your infant is teething. See if you can feel a tooth coming through the gums. Sometimes sucking on a cold teething ring can alleviate discomfort. Teething can cause generalized fussiness, but should not cause extreme pain. If your infant is inconsolable at night, then you should consult your pediatrician. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers

Let Pediatrician kno: You can start by letting your pediatrics know. You can try an enema if you know how to do it and have experience. Otherwise make sure your child gets lots of fluids to drink. My 3yo boy has been sayin last 2 days hes cold n it's 100+ here n he's been outside to n today he's been pointing to his belly button sayin it hurts ?
Possibly worrisome: If he is not a complainer, and this is very different for him to say something like this...I would worry about his having chills where you can feel cold... My 45 day old baby isnt able to poop spontaneously, she passed her meconium immediately after birth n did poop herself after that about 2 times?
Possibly GI consult: What do you mean by "poop spontaneously". Do you use a finger or thermometer to induce pooping? My 6 month old hasn't pooped in 3 days. He tries but nothing comes out. He eats oatmeal/veggies along with formula. What can I do/when to worry?
Constipation?: If this is a change from his normal pattern, he may need stool softeners. First, i'd advise trying baby food prunes daily and increasing his water intake. If there are no results from this, he should be checked by his doctor to ensure there are no other underlying causes; if there aren't, his doctor can recommend a gentle laxative at an appropriate dose for his size. ...Read more

Breast Fed Babies: Can have semiloose to runny or seedy mucousy, sour smelling poop after every feeding (like 6-8 times/day), or they can have poop every 6-8 days. Both are normal. So, you don't have to do anything to make baby poop. As song as there is no other issue, like vomiting, distention of abdomen or very hard stool, your baby is ok.
