What to do if I have a 4 day old infant, that I am breast and bottle feed. How can I completely empty the milk in my breast?

What to do if I have a 4 day old infant, that I am breast and bottle feed. How can I completely empty the milk in my breast?

Breastfeeding: If you have enough milk to exclusively breast feed no bottle feeding is needed. In 15 minutes of sucking the baby will empty the breast. If he/she is satisfied with only nursing on one side you can pump the other side and freeze it for future use. Pumping does not completely empty the breast like the suction from a baby but a good pump will do ok. ...Read more

Start feeding and...: Congratulations on deciding to breast feed your baby as it will significantly improve your baby's health. Breastfeeding is a natural process; your body wants to do this, so start nursing your baby and the milk will come in. I was drinking and breastfeeding at the same time to my 23 w baby is this going to affect her in anyway , and now she running fever what can I do ?

Breastfeed alcohol: If your 23 week infant is running a fever and there is no obvious cause then contact your pediatrician asap. As far as alcohol and breastfeeding, there is the possibility that the baby could appear lethargic since alcohol is a depressant. It also depends upon the amount of alcohol that you may be consuming. If it all costs i would refrain from excessive alcohol intake while breast feeding. ...Read more

My 11 month baby cries all the time to be in my arms, she already walks, has lots of toys, i can't cook, clean, im also pregnant what can I do?With no cry

Separation anxiety: Sounds like separation anxiety which usually escalates around this age in a normal child. You can try finding distractions for her and place her in a safe area (pack and play, crib, playpen) while you go do what you have to do. Most babies who cry but are not hungry or hurt will be ok if you don't rush to console them immediately. If possible, try to get a friend/ family to help give you a break. ...Read more

I stop breast feed 4 months ago and lately I have been getting pain in my leaf breast. Way is that happening? And what can I do to stop it?

Breast pain: Breast feeding up to 4 months ago should not have any relationship to breast pain now. Engorgement, mastitis and blocked milk duct(s) can all cause breast pain when it occurs while a woman is nursing or shortly after the weaning process. My 2 month old has bad gas and gets really bad cramps and can't get it out, how can I help her? She screams in pain all the time.

My 2 month old has bad gas and gets really bad cramps and can't get it out, how can I help her? She screams in pain all the time.

Prevention first: Try to use low flow nipples, burp frequently, try low lactose or no lactose formula. Don't overfeed. Crying also causes her to swallow air, so even try to burp if she is crying. If already full of gas, gently rub abdomen in circular fashion to calm, warm (not hot) towel to abdomen. Do not use gas drops or suppositories as these can irritate more than help. ...Read more

How many minutes am i supposed to breast feed on each breast? For some reason my left breast is producing more milk. How can I even them out?

10-15 minutes: 10 -15 minutes on each breast is more than adequate to empty the breast. Baby actually gets 90% of the milk in the first 5 minutes. If one breast is significantly producing more, start your nursing always on the side that produces less. Baby's suck is more vigorous at the start of the feeding and will be more stimulating to that breast. Also can use warm compress to increase blood flow to that side. ...Read more

My stomach hurts all the time and i get full quickly. My father is dying with cancer, mother in hospital and I am a nurse. Is it just stress?

Don't assume: Stress likely affecting you but these symptoms could indicate something more serious such as an ulcer. Given your age >40 you should see your physician. An upper endoscopy/egd may be warranted. Certainly a history, exam and blood tests are warranted. A trial of acid blocker for 10-14 days is worthwhile but don't avoid an evaluation especially if symptoms persist, worsen or associated symptoms. ...Read more

I have been breastfeeding and just read that retinol in otc creams are not good. What can happen to my baby and should I throw away all my milk?

General rules: The creams or lotions that you apply to your skin are generally fine during breast feeding as long as they are not applied to the feeding sites.. Their medication content does not enter the blood in a detectable amount that would influence the milk. This includes retinol. see Medications & Mothers Milk, Hale,T.15th ed.p1100. ...Read more
