Sometimes when I turn my head it pops in the back & hurts so I can't move it & feels as hot liquid down the back of my head flowing down my neck. Why?

Worrisome symptoms: Sounds like you may have a "pinched nerve" or possibly problems with one of the discs in your neck and/or back. You mention an MRI and some surgery. Was this of your neck and if so, what did it show? It is important to see about this group of symptoms.. Contact your doctor to see about having a physical examination and any imaging studies to clarify the cause of your symptoms. Take care. ...Read more

After a neck sprain strain from a gym machine. I can't move 2right it hurts when I walk move my head to right when I sleep. Ice it? Rest it? Week off?

Yes: For a neck sprain after a workout, I do think it would be reasonable to try conservatively with time/observation, ice, anti-inflammatories, and gentle stretches/rom. If your symptoms are persistent after a week or two, or if the pain is really severe, or if there is associated radiation of the pain into your arm or weakness/numbness/tingling in your arm, then I would advise seeing a physician. ...Read more

1 doctor agreed:

Pain: Pain can be due to trauma/injury or to nerve that's overreacting. Pain in neck & shoulders may be due to stress, poor posture, etc. In older adults, we might think of polymyalgia rheumatica. Arthritic conditions don't generally start in neck & shoulders w/o trauma. You listed "reconstruction surgery" but didn't describe what was fixed. If it's bad enough to make you cry, it's time to go see ur doc. ...Read more

What do you advise if I was in band and all of a sudden I couldn't move my neck it really hurt now I have limited movement. Why?

Many Possibilities: Depending on how long it's been going on, I would consider an evaluation by a spine specialist. Sometimes it could be a muscle imbalance, early onset arthritis or scoliosis. Also could be a pinched nerve/herniated disc. Either way it might be good to figure it out and get appropriate treatment. ...Read more

I coughed and something popped in my neck and now it hurts I can barely move?

Usually a muscle: Usually this is from a strained muscle and will get better with time, massage, and alternating heat/cold. Try heat and Tylenol (acetaminophen): You can try applying heat or take a hot shower while taking some tylenol (acetaminophen) as well as ibuprophen or Naproxen as well as long as you have no Aspirin allergy or stomach problems & are not on any blood thinners. The back of my neck hurts when I look up. When I don't move it I have dull pain on the part where my left shoulder meets with the bottom of my neck.?

Neck strain/sprain: Often no specific injury, but many people suffer neck/shoulder pain unknowingly caused by long-term desk work (looking at the computer all day) and poor sleep position at night etc... I would suggest doing some really good range-of-motion/stretching exercises; use of some motrin/aleve, gentle-warm heat massage may help. If not better, consult doc for a more complete evaluation. Good luck. ...Read more

I have a large round lump on the back of my neck it doesn't hurt and it moves if pressed on. Is this a sign of a serious condition or is it cosmetic?

Lipoma or cyst: The most common causes of a painless soft lump in that area are lipoma (a benign fat tumor) and epidermal cyst (a benign cyst that forms when cells from the top skin layer go deeper). If it's large, it's probably been there for a long time - so I would suggest seeing your doctor, who will make sure it is not something more unusual and potentially more of a problem. ...Read more
