What kind of doctor to see for My mom has a sharp pain in her vein from her butt to her leg. It hurts when she walks and stands but not when she sits.

You mean nerve not : Vein. Usually the sciatic nerve involves the pathway you're describing. Normally most people don't have pain symptoms from veins, unless there's a varicose vein that's very painful that might be in your mom's leg. She needs to see her PCP for further medical advice, and S/he will recommend PT, meds your mom can take. Also a DO, or doctor of osteopathic medicine can provide osteopathic treatment for relief. ...Read more

There : There are several possibilities - either that these symptoms are related to the partial hysterectomy and may represent a complication, or that this is totally unrelated and a coincidental process. Assuming that your mother had no previous symptoms, then i would suggest that this is related somehow to her recent surgery. I was struck with your comment that her gynecologist mentioned that the appendix might have to be removed after surgery if there are any complications with it - did they see any problems with her appendix? If so, then it may well be some appendiceal pathology. Complications related to any abdominal surgery include: adhesions, infection and bleeding. If she has an elevated white count or fever, then this may reflect infection. Other pathologies may include gallbladder, pancreatitis, kidney stones, urinary tract infection, diverticulitis of the colon, infection of the colon related to antibiotics, such as c. Difficle colitis. You should have your mother seen by the surgeon that operated on her. She may need further testing such as an ultrasound or ct scan along with blood work. ...Read more

My wife has numbness in her left foot, and some pain on her right thumb when something touches it and no strength to use it! what can the be?

Two problems: These are likely not related. The foot numbness may be due to neuropathy, or a pinched nerve. For the thumb pain, sounds like it may be arthritis. Where in the thumb is the pain? Is it painful to touch all over or over a specific area? Loss of strength can be related to joint pain. ...Read more

Having unbearable pain only in the right arm. My mom has been developing pain in her right arm for the past few weeks and seems that it's up to a point where she can't straighten her arm. She said her entire right side of her body is sore but not as painf

She : She should see her primary care provider. If she does not have one she can seek out a family medicine doctor or internist (internal medicine). A detailed history and physical will need to be done in order to come up with possible diagnoses. Tests will then be done to confirm or exclude the possibilities. Just based on your post, it sounds like she may be dealing with musculoskeletal pain, a gout attack, or even a viral illness. It is very difficult to say at this point. If she is having any chest pain, palpitations, neurological deficits (slurred speech, weakness, etc) she should present to the emergenct room. Best of luck, . ...Read more
