My menstrual period dose not come at the same date every month. Why?

Cycle varies.: The average length of a menstrual cycle is 28 days from the start of one period to the start of the next. It is due to the cyclical production of hormones in the body. However, the cycle length can vary by a few days from month to month due to variation in the hormone release.

Menstruation (Definition)

The menstrual cycle begins with the shedding of the uterine lining, resulting in bleeding from the vagina. A few weeks later, one ovary releases an egg and the uterine lining thickens in preparation for a potential pregnancy. Pregnancy can occur at this stage if sperm fertilizes the egg. If the egg is not fertilized, the egg will leave your body and ...Read more

Menstrual: Menstrual irregularities are fairly common. You are likely dealing with anovulation, which is the absence of ovulation, thus causing abnormal bleeding. Causes of anovulation are extreme exercise, hormonal changes (thyroid issues, polycystic ovarian syndrome, hyperprolactinemia), fluctuations in weight (increase or decrease), stress/anxiety. You should have an evaluation by your primary care provider or gynecologist. Birth control pills can help stabilize your cycle. Discuss this option with your doctor. Good luck.

Other issues: The cramps may be related to other things like digestive issues or intestinal dysfunction. Start with an obgyn for evaluation. Other specialists may be needed.

There: There are other reasons besides pregnancy that can cause a woman to miss a period such as: stress, diet, excessive exercise, illness or a hormone imbalance such as with a thyroid disorder or poly cystic ovarian syndrome. You should contact you doctor to discuss your irregular cycle and your other symptoms. With your symptoms, you should have your thyroid levels checked at least. Good luck!

Way am experiencing lower back pain after my menstrual cycle? It happens like three months now every time my period fnish.

Endometriosis?: Sometimes, back pain related to your cycle is due to endometriosis, or implantation of tissue from the lining of the uterus on organs in the abdomen, such as bowel, ovaries, bladder, etc. This tissue is hormonally stimulated and can cause cramping and pain with or after menses. See your doctor and get checked.

You: You should be evaluated by your doctor for menorrhagia (heavy or prolonged period). The causes of menorrhagia include but are not limited to: dysfunction of the ovaries. Uterine fibroids polyps adenomyosis. Intrauterine device (iud) ectopic pregnancy cancer some blood coagulation disorders certain medications (blood thinners) your primary care provider or gyn will evaluate you and perform examination and possible pelvic ultrasound, and a treatment plan can be established, which may include birth control pills to regulate your cycle. Best of luck.

Tests are accurate: Home pregnancy tests are very accurate and not affected by foods, herbs, common illnesses, sexually transmitted diseases, or medications. A correctly done urine test gives a reliable result 3 weeks after sex (3 weeks after when conception might have happened) or 1 week after missing a period. If done sooner, a positive result is likely real, but a negative result may be due to testing too soon.

Unsure: It is possible that you also have pcos, but without a complete history and physical exam the definitive diagnosis is not possible. You should see your doctor for evaluation.

As: As doctors, anytime a fertile, sexually active woman has an abnormally light or missed period, the first thing we do is rule out pregnancy. You can either take another home pregnancy test as long as it has been 5- 6 weeks since your last normal period, or you can go see your doctor and they can test you. A home pregnancy test is 97% accurate if taken a week or more after the missed period, so another negative test would help confirm that you are not pregnant. A blood test can tell if you are pregnant as soon as 7 days after conception and a doctor's urine pregnancy test can tell if you are pregnant around when you next period should come. Since your period is usually irregular, this makes it difficult to time fertility windows and know what a missed period means. Since you had an infection the last time you had these symptoms, you should probably be checked by your doctor either way. Good luck!

My period keeps coming every 11 days after the last menstrual cycle?

Too often: This frequency is too often and may cause eventual anemia and other medical issues to occur. See the gyn specialist and have your irregular periods evaluated and treated, best wishes.

I am 17 and my menstrual cycle isn't regular. I've my periods every 3 months. Is it fine if this happens?

Maybe okay: At 17, the communication between your pituitary gland that tells your ovaries what hormones to make is still maturing. It's possible that this is why your periods are irregular. It's also possible that extremes of weight such as too thin or too heavy can be a cause as well. Thyroid can also play a role. At some point, maybe by 18, if you're periods aren't regular, make an appt with gynecologist.

Something going on: It is not normal for this to happen. There are many conditions that can cause this, adenomyosis, endometriosis, ovarian cysts, etc, I suggest you see your gyn asap.

How can I calculate my menstrual cycle and "fertile" period? I am having hard time calculating the length of my menstrual cycle. Every time I get a different amount of time. I have a 2 year old daughter and now we are trying for a boy and I heard and read

The: The theory around timing of intercourse and gender of baby is this: 1. The y chromosome is smaller than the x chromosome - so sperm with y chromosomes swim faster. 2. If you have intercourse at the time of ovulation - the first sperm to get to the egg are the y containing sperm. 3. If you have intercourse before ovulation - the later sperm (supposedly x containing sperm) will be the ones hanging around waiting for the egg once it ovulates this is purely a theory and has not be proven. You are most fertile in the middle of your cycle, near ovulation. If you have 31-32 day cycles - you are most likely ovulating around cycle day 15-17. In general, I recommend starting to have intercourse every other day between cycle day 10 and 20. I hope this helps!

I've recently had 1000mg of B12 (apparently correct dose for my weight). Could this have an effect on my menstrual cycle? My last period was June 3. I have taken a pregnancy test that has come back negative.

Probably not: Several of the B vitamins including B12 are necessary for a normal menstrual cycle, but taking B12 is unlikely to be the cause of missing a menstrual cycle completely. I assume there is a specific reason for taking the B12, because a normal diet would supply enough unless you have a condition in which your body cannot absorb the B12 or your body is unable to effectively use the B12 it gets.
