I just started prozac (fluoxetine) and my sex drive is now low, will this last the whole time I'm on prozac (fluoxetine)?
Fluoxetine (brand prozac) is an antidepressant in the class known as serotonin selective reuptake inhibitors aka ssris. Fda approved in 1987 for the treatment of major depressive disorder. Subsequently approved for obsessive compulsive disorder, bulimia nervosa, panic disorder, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder. Significantly safer and much better ...Read more
I was on Prozac (fluoxetine) and diazepam but getting all the side effects of Prozac (fluoxetine) so decided to not take it, stayed on diazepam, panic/dizzy getting worse.
Combined issues: Your original symptoms could be recurring, now that you've stopped prozac (fluoxetine). Also although it's a long-acting medication and has some self-tapering properties because of that, Prozac (fluoxetine) can still cause discontinuation symptoms in some people. Third, i don't know how much diazepam you're taking, but it can cause dizziness too. Please contact your doctor & let him/her help you with this. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Been on Wellbutrin (bupropion) for years and more recently put on 50mg Zoloft. I have stopped Zoloft bc of the side effects and have withdrawal. What can I do?
No withdraws: Zoloft (sertraline) practically doesn't cause typical withdraws, like most antidepressants, however, abrupt discontinuation of long term use of high dose Zoloft (sertraline) may cause so called "discontinuation reaction" which may give some discomfort but for very limited time, unlike "hardcore" opioids withdraws lasting weeks or months. ...Read more

Polypharmacy risks: Risk vs benefit. Everything you do in life has its risks and its benefits. The drug that your be is on has a lot of potentially serious side effects including an increased risk of suicide in teens and young adults. It can also cause significant weight gain. It can cause a lot of other things too. There are better ways to induce sleep. Good luck. ...Read more

Hello. I am weaning myself off of 50mg of pristiq (desvenlafaxine) under the supervision of my dr. I am taking it every other day and wondering if i can take st. John's wort on the days that i don't take the pristiq (desvenlafaxine)?
Simple is best: I would not recommend taking st. Johns's wort while Pristiq (desvenlafaxine) is still on board -- which it will be until you are completely off of it. St. John's wort may repeat certain activity of the pristiq, (desvenlafaxine) exposing you to serotonergic side effects. Keep things simple -- one medication at a time with these two. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

I am currently on escitalopram 20 mg for health anxiety. I read about the qt prolongation and possible arryhmia side effects and I feel scared to take my meds. My health anxiety seems to focus on my heart. I have taken celexa 40 mg for almost four years w
Talk with your doc: I would discuss this issue with your primary physician. If you've never had any history of heart problems and have previously had a normal EKG, I would not expect an issue. Pre-existing heart conditions such as certain kinds of arrhythmias can make QT prolongation more dangerous, but in the absence of any issues these medications are safe to take. I would talk with your doctor. ...Read more

CBT ever tried?: There are a plethora of medications available for the treatment of depression. If the former then, fine, if the latter then, don't be shy to ask for another opinion. Next, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy has raised some brows lately. Could it be a good change 4 U? ...Read more

Want off medication: I am not sure of your age, so that makes it difficult to answer your question. Having an honest discussion with your doctor is needed, and this is also needed with your dad. I have bee put on Zoloft (sertraline) 50mg in the morning for anxiety/depression. Part of my depression i been battling is weight gain!will Zoloft (sertraline) add to this?
Depression, weight: This is a common battle that doctors and patients who are treating depression have. Depression all by itself can cause weight gain. Add to this the fact that several antidepressants are linked to weight gain and you have an uphill battle. The honest answer is that zoloft (sertraline) may add to your weight problem. So you may have to decide which is more important to you, your weight or your emotional health. ...Read more

Effexor (venlafaxine): effexor (venlafaxine) wouldn't cause withdrawal. you probably just had side effects. its notorious for being difficult to start and stop. remeron is not anything like effexor (venlafaxine) but it will help with sleep and appetite. also, what about tapering the suboxone? shouldn't have to be on it for "years." ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
