My Iris Is Different
There's a yellowish color around the circle of my pupil on my iris. I'm Irish with blue eyes. Is that normal and on top of my cornea?
Probably normal, but: There are all sorts of variations in iris color and this may be one of those. Some people will have a white or yellowish ring around the perimeter of the cornea where it meets the white of the eye. This might appear to be an iris discoloration (the iris is in the eye), but really it is on the cornea, which is the clear dome over the iris. Arcus senilis?: This sounds like arcus senilis (Latin for arc or circle of aging). It's due to deposition of fats like cholesterol and usually means someone has an abnormal lipid profie. It depends: If the difference is small, the brain can usually fuse the two images, especially with the help of glasses. When it becomes very large (anisometropia), it becomes more difficult to fuse and can result in amblyopia.
