My husband has been battling a sinus infection. What can I do to help?

Maximize OTC meds: Often even in cases where antibiotics are necessary, we can alleviate the annoying symptoms of sinusitis with otc meds. A very useful regimen is using a salt water rinse 2 a day (ex neilmed sinus rinse). Also Mucinex (guaifenesin) max strength 2x day will also help most of the time. Another adjunct is to use a anti-histamine medication as well. However, good these are, often you will need antibiotics. ...Read more

My husband smokes and seems to always have a sinus infection-is this related?

My husband smokes and seems to always have a sinus infection-is this related?

I have 10 days worth of cephalexin 500 mg left from my husbands skin infection. Can I take this for a sinus infection?i am allergic to morphine

No: I applaud your efforts to save money / avoid waste and am glad that you asked first. While Cephalexin may work for some of the bacteria that cause sinus infections it is not the drug of choice so by taking it you would run the risk of side effects for naught. Allergy to morphine is not a concern in this context. ...Read more

Husband on amox generic for seven days for sinus infection...Took last pill 7 days ago. As of last night, has fever 103.3. Felt better after starting amox. Does he need a different type of antiobiotic? Time for er?

Typically : Typically sinus infections are treated for a minimum of ten days. If he is still having fever after 7 days then the antibiotics were not sufficient to cover his infection or the treatment was not long enough. He needs to be reevaluated. He should follow up with his primary care provider, if he is unable, an urgent care is a good choice. Good luck. ...Read more
