Some reasons...: I'd say the most common reason is just sore muscles. It could happen after a day of exercise, stretching, or twisting. We also think of certain medications causing muscle aches (cholesterol meds). Viral illnesses could cause hip muscle pain too, but this is usually in association with other symptoms. A thorough Orthopaedic evaluation and imaging is warranted to assess whether hardware removal will diminish your symptoms. Sciatica tends to be a very broad and poorly used terminology by many practitioners without giving you a clear cause of your pain.
While the back can be a source of hip pain, it more often then not isn't especially if the pain isn't going below your knee. I would have your hip evaluated by a ortho/sports specialist or physiatrist.
