My hands are always cold and blue. Could it be due to a blocked artery?

My hands are always cold and blue. Could it be due to a blocked artery?

Possibly: Cold and blue hands could definitely be due to a vascular problem. The three possibilities would be, 1) a blocked large artery of the arm, 2) a blocked vein in the arm causing venous congestion (blue color and swelling), or 3) a vasospastic condition of the hand called raynaud's phenomenon. Either way, the best test is an ultrasound. See someone urgently if you are having pain. ...Read more

Artery (Definition)

Arteries are defined as blood vessels which carry blood away from the heart (to either the body or lungs). Arteries: higher pressure, thicker walls, stretch (pulse) with each heart contraction & deliver blood to the arterioles which control the flow to individual capillaries. Veins are blood vessels which carry blood from capillaries back to the heart (body to right heart; ...Read more

What is causing my hands to always be cold and redish-purple?

What is causing my hands to always be cold and redish-purple?

Let me help: Raynaud's disease is a condition that causes some areas of your body — such as your fingers, toes, the tip of your nose and your ears — to feel numb and cool in response to cold temperatures or stress. In raynaud's disease, smaller arteries that supply blood to your skin narrow, limiting blood circulation to affected areas. ...Read more

Is it possible to get temporary vasculitis in your hands related to a viral upper respiratory infection?my palms and fingers still feel different when touching things under pulsating a little bit now. Ice cubes still inflamed both palms and cause extreme

Finish question : Sounds a bit far-fetched, but vasculitis can follow an infectious process - don't know about the temporary character of that vasculitis, one would hope it was short-lived. The symptoms you describe sound like a type of urticaria, a chronic inflammatory process. I suggest you see either an allergist and/or immunologist to unravel this mystery ...Read more

When i put my legs up to rest my feet become very tingly and ice cold, is this a common reaction or is there another way to get the blood circulating?

When i put my legs up to rest my feet become very tingly and ice cold, is this a common reaction or is there another way to get the blood circulating?

Low blood flow: This could be due to low/poor blood flow. Depending on how long your legs are elevated for you could be compressing some nerves to make you have the tingling sensation or it could be the lack of blood flow making your feet tingle as well. Many other conditions can cause this type of symptoms such as metabolic conditions and connective tissue conditions. If there is pain see your doctor. ...Read more

Would clammy hands and feet be because of my thyroid? my hands and feet also get really cold sometimes. would this also be thyroid related?

Can be, check w/ Dr.: The thyroid controls the thermoregulation of the body, so often when people have cold hands and feet in the dead of summer, that's a tip off! However, other things must be taken into account as well. You have a history of thyroid cancer, headache, and thyroidectomy. So make sure your thyroid panel is evaluated carefully by your doctor, and levothyroxine is optimized. ...Read more

I always wake up with swollen fingers nd my arms and hand feel heavy nd with a bit of pain what can be causing this ? Can this be a due to my anxiaty

NOT anxiety: Painful swollen fingers may be due to some form of 'auto-immune' arthritis. Simple blood tests (sed rate/crp) can quickly test for inflammation and confirmatory testing (ccp, ra, ana) may be neeed. I would get seen by primary care doctor. For now you can take nsaids (i suggest Aleve (naproxen) 2 in am, 2pm). Anxiety should not cause edema per se. Hope you are better soon! ...Read more

Some of my toes are always red/purple colored. My feet are always cold. What could this be caused by?

Some of my toes are always red/purple colored. My feet are always cold. What could this be caused by?

Circulation: Cold blue toes are a circulation issue. At your age, it is unlikely to be closing of the major arteries. More likely is raynaud's phenomenon. Cold or damp conditions will cause the nerves that control blood flow through the small vessels to the hands and feet to slow it. Keep them warm and dry. A glass of wine actually helps. If it persists, consider calcium blocker medication in cold weather. ...Read more

My hands arealways cold & now my knuckles are blue, what does this mean? Do I have to go to the hospital? Almost always cold

I'm : I'm going to answer assuming that this is a bother rather than an emergency. It's usually easy to tell the difference. There is a range of response to cold. We all protect our core temperature (our brain, heart, lungs, etc.) by reducing the circulation to our hands. Some of us do this better than others. At the far end of the spectrum, people reduce there circulation so well that it is referred to as raynaud's phenomenon. A doctor can check to be sure there is no underlying problem, but most people with this issue are healthy. In fact, as a person who gets cold, mottled hands in the cold, i can tell you that the line between normal and disease can often be difficult to draw here. ...Read more

Can a person have a blood pressure reading of 120/80 and still have a partially blocked artery in his arm?

Yes: Blockages in the arteries providing blood to the arms are common. Most often these blockages don't cause any symptoms. It is good to be aware of them as they can give you a false low blood pressure. A simple way to test this is to check the arm pressure in both arms. The higher pressure is the accurate one. A 20mmhg difference is considered significant. An ultrasound can give a more accurate diag. ...Read more
