Nerves: Numbness is caused by nerves being irritated or pinched. These nerves can be pinched in the periphery, such as at the wrist or ankle, or they can pinched as they exit the spine. With both upper and lower extremities having consistent symptoms I would recommend evaluation by a health professional to rule out a general nerve health problem called polyneuropathy.

See a neurologist: Although your condition could be benign the length of time it's going on is of concern to me. There are many possible causes of your problem ranging from actual nerve damage to nutritional deficiencies, diabetes, and hypothyroidism. These and others must be ruled out. You should have a complete history and exam by a neurologist. Please have this done as soon as possible.
