No: Baby acne is a common event that appears by 2 weeks or so but should fade before 3 months. If it persists, it should be regarded as a treatable problem. Meds for teen acne are often helpful. I never put Vaseline on what I think may be acne. A consultation with a dermatologist & possible workup for hormonal excess are both realistic . ...Read more

My 5 week old baby has red spots and pimples all over her face. Her behaviour has not changed since she got them. Is this normal and will it go away?

Yes: It is extremely common for 4-5 week old babies to get a rash on their faces. It looks very bad, but usually doesn't bother the child at all and generally will disappear within a week or so. If your baby has other symptoms (pain, itching, fever, decreased appetite or increased sleepiness) it would be good to see your pediatrician to make sure the rash is not a sign of an infection or allergy. ...Read more

Baby acne: Baby acne is very similar in origin and distribution as that of a teenager. The hormones that enabled mom to carry through pregnancy cross into baby & after a time away from the moisturizing waters of the womb will cause baby acne. My 19 months has had small red bumps in his diaper area for almost a week, and not improved with diaper rash cream. Now he has the same on his stomach?

May be yeast/candida: A trial of antifungal cream like lotrimin af cream otc (aka 1% clotrimazole) can be used to eliminate this rash. Apply twice daily and you should see improvements over the next week. Airing the area out-allowing the area to breath will facilitate improvement. I am assuming he is otherwise healthy without fever, etc... ...Read more

Cradle cap and Acne!: Cradle cap is benign and it is not allergy, infection or anything to with poor hygiene. Simply use baby shampoo and a soft brush and it clears up within 6 to 12 weeks generally. Rash on the face and neck could be acne and that too clears up on it's own. If the rash is red and itchy it could be eczema. ...Read more

My baby has a rash on his face. I think it might be eczema because his face is dry. Can i put vaseline on his face?

Go to a doctor: Baby's skin is very delicate and it is not good to treat it with things that are fine for older children and adults. A facial rash may not be serious, but it may be part of an allergic reaction or something else requiring a prescription. Make an appointment or visit an urgent care clinic to avoid problems. Vaseline does not sound good, but ask a druggist for a baby product that won't hurt. ...Read more

14 week old baby has reflux, on nutramigen has small pinkesh bump on neck and torso. i gave him rice cereal but suspended once i saw the reaction.

What is ?: If your question is about the rash, it is likely the rash is from the irritation of the spit-up from the reflux. Try to keep as dry as possible and change shirt right away if does get wet. You are on a very easy to digest formula. Even with that, though, reflux can still occur. Do small, more frequent feeds, keep baby upright 30 minutes after feeds. good burping and elevate head of crib. ...Read more

Confirm Diagnosis: When skin conditions don't respond as expected it is important to confirm the diagnosis. Try Benadryl (diphenhydramine) either topical or pill. Chronic hives or urticaria (cu) are rarely permanent, and while uncomfortable, do not pose the kind of health risk that acute urticaria can. Other triggers to consider in cu are heat (hot showers, humidity), tight clothing or straps, or pressure points. ...Read more
