She : She needs to have a complete neurological evaluation. I am glad she is having a cat scan. She may need an MRI or an eeg study on her brain as well. She may also need studies on her heart to be sure she isn't having irregular heart rhythms or an underlying heart problem. She should see her pediatrician who can refer her to these specialists. Fainting (syncope) in this age group is very rare and must be taken very seriously. ...Read more
Hi, my two year old (30 lb) daughter went to the doctor for a fever of 104.6. She was prescribed liquid ammoxicillan 50mg/ml dosed at two ML 2x/day. Is this dose right?
For what ????: Antibiotics including amoxicillin are usually dosed by weight and condition. A bladder infection would be dosed lower than an ear infection. That said, I cannot remember ever using a dose that low for anything. My usual for an ear infection at her weight would be 600 mg twice a day,a bladder infection 350 mg twice a day. ...Read more
10lbs8.5oz baby takes approximately 24oz per day. Last bottle of the night was almost at 8pm and woke up at 4am for a feeding. Am I under feeding her?
Hard to tell: As a general rule of thumb, infants under six months who haven’t yet started solids should be taking 2 to 2½ ounces of formula per pound of body weight over a 24-hour period. If your baby seems satisfied (doesn't continue to root and fuss after feedings, falls asleep...) and is growing and achieving milestones on time then, no, she is not being underfed. Take Care ...Read more
I'm breastfeeding my son every two hours and he's two months old, when does his feeding time change?
Now if he is gaining: well. You can gradually increase the time between feedings by 10-15 minutes by soothing him with holding and soft vocalizing, even consider a pacifier. As he waits a bit longer he will take in more and be satisfied longer. At two months he should be able to advance to every 3-4 hours over the next few weeks . Remember, you need to rest. You can also pump and save up a feeding for once at night ...Read more
If my baby is 5month 3weeks, can he starts to drink 6 month old formula? What's the different between the first six month and after six month formula?
No problem: There is usually a reasonable amount of wiggle room in such things and i doubt 1 week will make a difference. Some formulas differ in their fat and caloric content for different ages to accomodate different nutritional needs in a growing infant. At 6 months, with the guidance of your doctor, you can also start "solids" (ie: jar baby food , baby cereal, or homemade purees). ...Read more
My three year old son took half a bottle of the Up and Up children's gummy multivitamins..is he going to be okay for the night? He seems okay..thanks
Probably as long as:: He'll be fine unless they contain a lot of iron. Unfortunately Target doesn't state the ingredients on their website. Doses of iron of 10 mg per pound can be toxic and 30 mg per pound VERY dangerous. Half a bottle is nearly 100 tablets. If he weighs 30 pounds and the amount of iron is under 3 mg per tablet he'll be fine. But kids think they're candy so they should be where he can't get to them. ...Read more

Define fever: The normal variation in temperature follows a predictable pattern.Usually it is at its lowest around 4-6am and its highest at 4-6pm. (about a degree below or above average)if the kid's temp does not exceed 100, i wouldn't consider it fever. If it is >102 but present only in the afternoon with no other symptoms, it is likely something minor (viral) that should end in a day or two.If worried get seen. ...Read more
Is this okay for a 1 month old to do? My baby was born 6lbs 2oz and 19in long. Hes now one month and since like two weeks back hes been eating 4oz of formula milk every 2hours and a half-3hours during the day. At night time it weird, like yeaterday i fini
Don't : Don't wake him up! thank your lucky stars that he's a good sleeper and let him sleep through the night! unless he has a genetic disorder that requires him to eat every few hours (and you would know this because it is part of the newborn screen), it is fine to let him sleep throughout the night - even 8 hours if he'll do it. He may want to eat more during the day if he's sleeping more at night, so if he's draining that 4 oz bottle, you may want to offer 5 or 6 oz. He'll let you know when he's hungry. Congratulations on your baby! ...Read more
My baby is one and half month old. She is having cough and constantly sneezing at every five to ten minute interval. What should we do?
Comfort/ observation: The average 1-2mo with cough is dealing with nasal irritants. Avoiding cleaning fumes, smoke, fragrance containing soaps & the like helps. Nasal wash with saline will reduce the congestion & cough. A saline nasal wash is effective in washing out irritants. If you observe a decline in his activity/fluid intake etc a call to the docs service is in order. ...Read more

I have a seven year old daughter who is complaining of headaches. Three months ago my pull up bar fell on her forehead, she got a goose egg.
See Pediatrician : Children commonly have headaches. Some questions that come to mind are- how long has she had the headaches? When does she get them? Any associated nausea? Is she otherwise active and taking part in all activities? You shd also have her eyes checked. Then child shd see a pediatrician who will evaluate her & then decide if history of injury is of significance & if investigations are in order. ...Read more
22 month old has strep she's around five month old a lot. Five month old has all the symptoms of strep. Doc refused to take a culture. What to do?
See another: Strep although is not seen often on a five month old can happen. I'm no expert here..: It almost sounds like sleep apnea, doesn't it? Did you know that there are pediatric sleep clinics where your son can be evaluated for a sleep disorder? My daughter woke very lethargic, she threw up after eating and her temp is 97.5 degrees? Whats a normal range for a three year old girl?
Possible viral cause: That temperature range is not unusual for a 3 year old. Several factors can cause this. Stay quiet for awhile, small amount of clear liquids, by teaspoon full and watch. Did the standart dosage of amoxicilin double lately? My 1 yr old just got 500 mg twice a day just in case, and I got 1g twice a day!! (ear infections)
80/kilo/day dosing: In the US we have been using this higher dosing of amoxicillin for ear infections for quite some time. American Academy of Pediatrics recommended this in 2004 and I found this article on the Canadian Perspective of the AAP statement for you. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2528786/ So this is expected that you would be on the same dose as your child! It just works better for ear infections. ...Read more
