My 12 yr. Old son falls asleep doing schoolwork, homework, and chores; but is alert when watching t.V. Or playing video games, is this adhd?

My 12 yr. Old son falls asleep doing schoolwork, homework, and chores; but is alert when watching t.V. Or playing video games, is this adhd?

Maybe: Tv and video games are geared for a 4 second attention span. Most 2 year olds have longer attention spans than that. The 4 second attention span keeps your son alert via a neural reflex. It also lowers his attention span for the real world. Research states of those who watch 1 hour a day 9% will lower their attention span to add levels. 2 hours lowers 18% and 3 hrs 27%. Limit both to 45 min/day. ...Read more

My 18mth old cries inconsolably in accompanied playschool. He counts lights, rolls about, walks and identifies alphabets on the wall. Is he autistic?

Can't diagnose...: It isn't possible to diagnose autism based on the amt of info that you can give in this short question format. It is a complex diagnosis & requires that you discuss concerns with your pediatrician. Does your son make eye contact? How is speech? Just two questions that would be asked AND observed. What you described doesn't worry me BUT you are there and you are worried - talk to your doctor! ...Read more

Learning disorder: my bro could only read/write with his teacher, could not recognize colors. He left school 8 yrs ago at age12.How can he be rehabbed?

It depends...: Upon his motivation, the nature of his learning difficulties, possible related/coexisting problems, & upon the support of family/friends/professionals. 1 emphasis right away is to build upon whatever his relative strengths are. Competence can be developed which can build self-confidence & a measure of independence. But he has a serious disability; cognitive development may not be the 1st priority. ...Read more

Development Testing: Before your son can be labeled "late talker", a medical or developmental disorder must first be ruled out. Child's past medical/family/development history is not given but is important to know. Be aware that hearing loss is a major cause of language delay in this age group and must be tested for. See doctor for a full medical and developmental assessment to determine true cause of speech delay. ...Read more

My son has aspergers and has trouble reading social situations, he complains of voices, how can he succeed in school he has very high test scores?

Early intervention: The best way to proceed is to find a skilled specialist who can evaluate and refer him for appropriate services. Social skills are important to address intensively and early, i.e. with group skill training and individual therapy and coaching. Other associated symptoms may be alleviated with proper medication management as well. You should look into other resources, e.g. Autism advocacy online. ...Read more

My bro is diabetic since14.Since15, his school degrees changed from(a)to(d).Now he's21, still can't focus in studying for long time. What's wrong with him

Focus and diabetes: Assuming you brother is a type 1 diabetic, there could be a few things. One is poor blood sugar control which can really effect many cognitive functions of the brain. Thyroid disorders are more common in type 1 diabetics which is another possible cause. The last is depression which is quite common in young and older diabetics. Hope this helped ...Read more

Children are mirrors: Sorry to say this, but behavioral problems in chidden are often a reflection of parental behaviors or possibly other stressors in their environment. The connection with the mother is usually the most influential. The mother's life condition is very often reflected in the child's behavior. So it would be helpful to act how you want your child to act. ...Read more

Hi all, my boy has stareted his 1st yr at school and the teacher noticed that he isn't interacting with childrens doesn't eat and play, im concerened?

SCHOOL PHOBIA:: First time school, new school, new peers can be the cause of school phobia, separation anxiety, etc. If his behavior/interaction at home, family, known friends has been usual prior to starting school, then not to worry, he will be fine. Talk to his teacher again, tell her to encourage him doing things at school. He needs extra attention and praise, positive re-enforcement. Good luck. ...Read more

My child is 6 yrs he learns his school lessons late he is not sharp in memorizing what should I give him so that his memory power increases?

Time and practice: Just like he practiced walking and didn't just stand up one day and run around, his brain has to practice memorizing. Try different ways of presenting information. Some kids are oral learners (you can just tell them 2+2 is 4), while others are visual learners (show them 2 items and 2 more and then count all together are 4). Make learning fun, not a task or chore he is "good" or "bad" at! ...Read more
