My fingers are numb when I wake up. Should I be concerned?

My fingers are numb when I wake up. Should I be concerned?

Probably not: It usually means you have cut off circulation from sleeping in an odd position; however, it could be carpal tunnel syndrome. Try wearing a wrist splint at night to keep your wrists from bending while you sleep, and also pillows under your elbows to avoid pressure there. If it keeps up, see your doctor for testing.

Why are my fingers numb and swollen when I wake up?

Why are my fingers numb and swollen when I wake up?

Nerve compression: Numbness of the fingers with swelling which is worse at night or present when you wake up is suspicious for nerve compression syndromes such as carpal tunnel syndrome. An evaluation by a hand surgeon with appropriate diagnostic testing can confirm.

Why do I wake up with numbness on my little finger? Every morning

Why do I wake up with numbness on my little finger? Every morning

Ulnar nerve: A numb little finger is usually due to compression of the ulnar nerve. The most common place to compress it is at the elbow, sometimes by sleeping one your back with the elbow bent and the "funny bone" part of the elbow pressing against the bed. Another place to compress is at the wrist--usually by bending the wrist. If you sleep with your elbow bent a lot, there are ways to prevent that.

Pain in elbows, numbness, it spreads down from shoulders to fingers, wrists hurt, wake up at night, but is all day. What is it? Maybe Part Of Fibromya

Pain in elbows, numbness, it spreads down from shoulders to fingers, wrists hurt, wake up at night, but is all day. What is it? Maybe Part Of Fibromya

Elbow pain: Pain on both elbows? Lateral or medial side, Swelling? aggravated by activities or impaired range of motion? Pain, numbness spread down to fingers could be nerve entrapment (ulnar, median nerve). Fibromyalgia (FM) is possible due to bilateral symmetry of pain (usually 2 cm distal to lateral epicondyle). FM pain usually widespread plus fatigue, depression. Consult your PCP. Thanks and good luck

Myhands go numb really easy, I wake up with numb fingers alot. Also when holdiing things. Why?

Myhands go numb really easy, I wake up with numb fingers alot. Also when holdiing things. Why?

? carpal tunnel synd?: Most likely, you are experiencing nerve compression at the wrist, and activity and positioning exacerbates the ongoing process. This may be a consequence of repetitive keyboarding or flexion/extension movements of the wrists. See your doctor, obtain an EMG study, and get this treated, as a full cure is highly likely indeed.

I wake up and my finger tips and toes are numb. What causes this?

I wake up and my finger tips and toes are numb. What causes this?

Numbness on waking: When you are sleeping, there is reduced movements. Sometimes, one may lie in a position that compresses some nerves for hours, or compresses blood vessels that supply these nerves. These nerves then do not function properly, and there can be a sensation of numbness or tingling, even pain. With movement after you wake up, the pressure is released, and function rapidly returns to normal.

I had numbness in one finger few weeks ago after waking up and today I wake up to my lips being numb should I be concerned?

I had numbness in one finger few weeks ago after waking up and today I wake up to my lips being numb should I be concerned?

Depends.: If these are fairly brief changes in your sensation, then it probably doesn't require an evaluation. But if the symptoms last days and days, then you probably should be seen... Perhaps by a neurologist.

Can epicondilytis med or lateral make your fingers numb? How often? They become numb for like half an hour when I wake up in the morning

Radial tunnel is--: -often diagnosed as lateral epicondylitis, as the painful areas R so close. Epicondylitis by itself does not cause numbness. If the radial nerve is involved, the numbness is usually on the top of the hand or fingers. C a hand specialist.

Repetitive work?: If you do repetitive work, such as typing, you may also be suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome. Other possibilities include nerve impingement and even metabolic causes. I think you should see your doctor for further evaluation.

Joint stiffness: If your joints are stiff in the morning and they get better as the day goes by, you may be suffering from arthritis. You need to be evaluated by a physician for this and the other issue

I'm 44 found a knot on shoulder. Halfway through my work night whole arm will hurt and I wake up can't move arm for a while and fingers are numb?

I'm 44 found a knot on shoulder. Halfway through my work night whole arm will hurt and I wake up can't move arm for a while and fingers are numb?

T.O.S.: Aching shoulder pain, numb fingers, global arm numbness awakening from sleep, ; "shoulder knot", likely a loci of muscle spasm, all suggestive of thoracic outlet syndrome. Diagnosis is best made by osteopath or physiatrist. In my opinion, many neurologist doubt that it exists; so do not rely on them. Vascular surgeons know how to diagnose.

When I wake up my entire arm is in a pretty bad pain while feeling kind of numb and my finger tips feel tingly. What could be the reason?

It depends: Often an arm that is in pain with numbness and tingling after awakening meant that you slept on it, causing a decrease in blood flow and/or a compression of one of the nerves in the arm. If this is the case, it should resolve on its own. However, with your history of diabetes, this could be neuropathic pain if your diabetes is not well controlled. A visit with your doctor may be needed.

My pinky has been numb for a week, I slept on my hands on the table and it's the first time that a finger has taken this long to 'wake up'.what I do?

Time: You likely have a neuropraxia of the ulnar nerve which covers the pinky. These nerves take time to heal. Keep trying to move it and also make sure you are not compressing your elbow near the "funny bone' If it goes on see a neurologist

Pressure neuropathy: Is my best guess, based on your sleep position. Make sure you are not sleeping on your hand, or propping it up or on your chest. Does it eventually go away each day? If not, you could also have an odd pattern of carpal tunnel syndrome. Wear a wrist brace to sleep (not tight though) and see your doc if it persists.

Why is it when I wake up in the morning my hand or fingers and sometimes arm goes numb?

Why is it when I wake up in the morning my hand or fingers and sometimes arm goes numb?

Numbness: Sometimes this can be cause by your position of sleep, particularly if laying on your arms. It can also be related to carpal tunnel syndrome. If your symptoms persist or worsen (tingling, pain, numbness, etc), consider seeing a neurologist to be evaluated further.

Carpal?: Well, common things being common, carpal tunnel syndrome comes to mind. A "neutral posiition splint" worn at night is a good place to start. Best of luck!

Pain in thumb and first finger especially where it joins to the hand, some numbness. Worse in the morning when I wake up and I have diabetes.?

Pain in thumb and first finger especially where it joins to the hand, some numbness. Worse in the morning when I wake up and I have diabetes.?

Many possibilities: Numbness can occur from various reasons. Some potential causes include vitamin deficiency, nerve damage, nerve compression, and alcohol over consumption, side effects of different medications, or as a result of different systemic medical conditions such as diabetes. Get evaluated by a professional to determine the diagnosis. Treatment is based on the diagnosis.

Need to see a doctor: This could be either neck problem or possible carpal tunnel syndrome. You need to see a doctor to get a completely neurological examination. Did you ever had neck injury during sports or motor vehicle accident in the past? If you did, it is possible the numbness related to the neck injury. If you did not it is possible carpal tunnel. I still recommend you to see a doctor to rule out other causes.
