Psychological eval.: Your symptom suggests a psychiatric source. If you are feeling emotionally unwell this is more evidence that the source is in the mind. Why would I be thinning on the crown of my head, and my scalp looks to have red patches in that area??
Fungal/autoimmune: If you have red patches and thinning all in the same area then your doctor will likely need to do an exam with a wood's lamp and take samples such as scrapings of the skin and maybe a hair follicle to rule out fungal infections. Also, clinically we can also recognize whether it's an autoimmune condition. I would recommend having it examined in person. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Most likely fungus: Sounds like a fungal infection to me. Try applying a good athlete's foot cream. If you've got a sexual partner, she may have a yeast infection, which could be the source. She should get treated, too. By the way, I'm from Stockton. Graduated from Lincoln High in 1960. ...Read more

Nutrition is a big part of good skin, but science, specifically dermatology, can work wonders with what your DNA has given you for life.
