I am a 25 year old female that is yet to be allergic to something. Last two days I have had a red, sore throat and incredibly itchy ears.

Viral: The red sore throat is likely from a viral infection which however does not usually cause itchy ears. Perhaps you have a fungal infection in the external ear canals often from getting water into the ears. If so, you will need to consult your doctor to get you some antifungal ear drops (+/-) cortisone. I don't believe these two conditions are more coincidental than connected however. ...Read more

Sore throat , red and it is painful to swallow , also shooting pains down my tongue , moving tongue is painful, earache in both ears . Help?

Pharyngitis: Sounds like pharyngitis, which can be bacterial but is usually caused by viruses like those that cause the common cold. Since the ears, nose & throat are connected, you can also have an ear infection. Most viruses don't have good treatments Xcpt time (7-14 day). 8 yo w/ a sore throat yesterday, 2day tonsils look swollen but not red, ear pain, mild fever 37.7C, no cold symp. Warrants evaluation or is it early?

Evaluation: In an 8 y/o, especially with lack of cold symptoms, I would be concerned about strep throat. You don't have to have red tonsils or white patches to have strep throat. You gave it couple of days (which is good for strep -studies show if you wait a day or two before treating less likely to recur), so now it's time to see if it is strep, and have quick exam to make sure no enlargement of liver/spleen ...Read more

I have a sore throat, swollen glands, my ears hurt when I swallow and i am bringing up red/brown phlegm. What could it be?

Pneumonia?: This sounds like a standard respiratory viral infection that might have progressed to bronchitis or pneumonia. "Red/brown" suggest your sputum (phlegm from the bronchi or lungs) contains blood. See a doctor to be checked for bronchitis or pneumonia and possible need for an antibiotic prescription. Do it immediately if you have fever, chest pain of shortness of breath, or cough up obvious blood. ...Read more
