Not sure: There is a small nerve that travels from the ear canal (deep) area to the tongue that if it's mobility is altered somehow may cause some pain that is percieved to be comeing from your ear. Also, as you swallow, the pressure gradient can change in your middle ear and if there is inflammation present or a significant change in pressure, it may cause pain / soreness. See a doctor: You may have a pharyngitis, a throat infection, but if there is associated ear pain, the infection may have spread to the middle ear if it's more serious. You need to see a doctor and have them take a look in your ears with an otoscope, to see if an otitis is present, and if you might need antibiotics to clear th infection. Eustachian tube: When you swallow, a muscle opens the tube that communicates to the middle ear space from the back of the nose.(eustachian tube). This is a normal physiological process that equalizes middle ear pressure to outside pressure. If this process hurts, there is probably some inflammation in either the throat, back of nose, or middle ear. Swallowing should not cause ear pain. When i pop my ears, my left ear pops but it feels like air gets caught in my right ear and i get dizzy. right ear also clicks/pops when i swallow???
Eustachian tube: The tube that drains mucous from your middle ear is likely swollen. It can open and close when you chew or "pop" your ear and such maneuvers allow the air in and the pressure change can be uncomfortable.
