Please tell me, could my pain management doctor refuse to prescribe for me unless i quit smoking?
Hard to say: I'm not able to answer based on limited information, and can't comment on another doctor. If you are referring to getting controlled medications for your pain, such as narcotics, some providers consider patient use of any addictive substances to be a cause of not prescribing pain medications. Smoking cigarettes has been connected to having lower ability to handle pain. Consider quitting! ...Read more

Sleepin: Many different classes of medications help with sleep onset...Benzodiazepines, barbiturates, tricyclic antidepressants among others. In my opinion it is difficult for patients to change my personal prescribing habits. I have a pattern based on experience and choice. I would recommend nonmedication addressing of issues related to sleep first anyway - habits, hygiene, etc. ...Read more

I have soft tissue damage to my foot however I am allergic to nsaids and codeine. Paracetamol do not touch the pain what else can I take?
I had a fairly severe allergic reaction to morphine. I am also allergic to vicodin, codeine, and nsaids. Is tramadol/ultram safe? I have read conflicting things.
True allergic : Reaction to meds presents with itching, hives, chest pain, shortness of breath and choking sensation. If u had nausea, stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhea etc, these are side effects to the drug and not an allergic reaction. Tramadol should be fine if u were allergic to the other drugs. Discuss details with your dr. Take care! http://en.M.Wikipedia.Org/wiki/tramadol. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
Truly allergic to Morphine, Vicodin, Codeine & NSAIDS. Hives, flushing. Would Percocet or Oxycodone be safe for me? Surgery soon & mult health probs.
Trying to figure out my allergies. I get hives from Vicodin, Morphine, NSAIDS, Codeine. Does that mean also allergic to Percocet? How about Oxycodone?
Likely: The reaction from codeine, Vicodin, Morphine etc are not truly allergic reaction but from these drugs' ability to release histamine from your cells. Thus you will not likely tolerate any drug in the opiate group. NSAIDs can also cause hives (which are considered allergic in some) but more likely aggravates an existing episode of hives regardless what may be causing it. Need more information. ...Read more

Painful situation: You have a difficult problem which is not uncommon. You need a concerned physician to review the reactions and what alternatives are available for treatment. A doctor prescribed my 5 year old son codeine / promethazine at 5ml doses. Should i be concerned?
High range: If your kid is big for age this is at the higher end of the recommended amount and usually reserved for kids over 6. Most at this age get by on half this amount, if needed. Monitoring the kid for drowsiness and sedation are important. I prescribe this med occasionally but only a few times per year. Most kids can benefit from available otc meds. ...Read more
