My Doctor Said My Gestational Sac Was Abnormally Shaped What Does That Mean And Should I Be Worried
My doctor said my gestational sac was abnormally shaped. What does that mean? And should I be worried
Followup is needed: Gestational sacs can vary somewhat in shape. However, if an experienced ultrasonographer thinks a sac is irregular, then a followup study is usually scheduled. At that time both the sac and fetus can be evaluated. ...Read more
Irregular shaped gestational sac and heartbeat found at 7 weeks. Doc fears miscarriage is coming. Chances of sac fixing itself?
Keep Followup: Repeating a ultrasound can help give you more information. Each pregnancy is different and outcomes are hard to determine at this stage. Make sure that you keep your followup appointment with your doctor. Please contact them right away if you have fever, abdominal pain, or bleeding. Take care of yourself and good luck. ...Read more
The doctor is saying that my gestational sac is measuring too small and the baby is too big for it I am 8 w 2 d does that mean miscarriage?
Heart beat?: The most important thing to find out was if there was a fetus with a heartbeat visualized on the sonogram located inside of the uterus. If so then this is good news. The size of the gestational sac is not likely to be a contributory data point if the rest is true. You can ask your doctor to explain what was meant by a small gestational sac ...Read more
Is a small gestational sac in relation to the fetus a sign of a chromosomal abnormality. Fetus 9w sac 7w. Doctor and research have me very worried.
Hard to answer...:
At such an early stage, imaging and interpretation is hard.
There are associations between size and abnormalities.
But it is impossible to look at a minimally smaller size and conclude anything, especially chromosomal disorders.
It is best not to worry, but follow this serially and monitor progress. Your OB is the best judge of this and should advice you of intervention if at all needed. ...Read more

Promote luteal phase:
Utrogestan is a 'new' progestational agent, used to regulate menses and shown to help avoid early miscarriage without the known complications of agents like Depoprovera. It and equivalent agents are often prescribed for signs of threatened loss.
Ahealthy luteal phase of the menstrual cycle is probably critical. Consult your GYN. And good luck for the present. ...Read more

My u/s report says in a gestational sac is a yolk sac without embryo yet, but doctor comments it could be myoma. GS is 1.2cm. Could yolk sac be myoma?
Unlikely: Myomas, also known as fibroids, are rarely cystic. They can degenerate and contain fluid, but are unlikely to look like a gestational sac. You likely need a follow up ultrasound in about 2 weeks and correlation with beta hCG levels (blood test). Your gynecologist, however, can make a specific recommendation based on your history and physical exam or lab tests. ...Read more

Hello doctor I was five week three days pregnant. But my gestational sac was empty. Doctor has prescribed me usg after two weeks. But now I m having b?
5 wks plus/pregnant: At five plus weeks, it is not always possible to see a fetal heart on ultrasound. Another ultrasound in "2 wks." (if that is what "usg" means) is appropriate, but if you are having bleeding, it may be a miscarriage. Get a quantitative HCG (serum) from your gyn provider. This can give definite indication as to whether your pregnancy is still viable. ...Read more

Defer to the Doctor: The physician's here are very uncomfortable giving news that could be bad or devastating. We do not, in any way, want to take away from the expertise of the physician caring for you in person. Nor do we want to contradict, given our limited knowledge of the specifics, the doctor providing you care where you live. I would trust the provider caring for you there that ordered and performed the exam. ...Read more
5w4d pregnant, ultrasound only gestational sac, not yolk sac. Is that normal? I have normal cycles 29-31 days. Doctor scared me today, told me I will have to end my pregnancy.
Maybe: I have found that at this phase, that if you wait one to two weeks and redo the ultrasound, that things can change for the good. The dating is not 100%. Your dates and the machine dates can sometimes be way off. Also a pregnancy test from your blood can also guide you. Talk honestly with your doctor before jumping to conclusions. As a doctor, do you think I'm pregnant if I got a positive test but I have a 5 CM ovarian cyst, & no gestational sac on ultrasound??
Yes: The pregnancy test detects human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG), which is produced by the trophoblast, which later becomes the placenta. An ovarian cyst will not produce HCG. If you are 3 to 5 weeks, the gestational sac is easily missed. Your OB will address the possiblility of a tubal pregnancy, and can confirm that you are not having a miscarriage by documenting a rising HCG level or repeat US. ...Read more
I'm 6 wk 2days pregnant IVF. My gestational sac is empty and my doctor wants to do a laparoscopy to see if it an ectopic pregnancy. Is it to soon?
Yes!: An empty gestational sac means that you have an intrauterine pregnancy, but it may be too early to tell if it is viable. The problem with IVF is the possibility of twins one which could be tubal. However, it is vital that he check with HCG levels and ultrasounds before subjecting you to a surgery that could definitely end the pregnancy. If you are not having any pain or bleeding. ...Read more
Hi my sister did IVF and she is 6 weeks pregnant. Her doctor told her the Yolk Sac is bigger than Gestational Sac. Is that usually normal? Source: H
Some confusion: I think something got lost in translation somewhere: the yolk sac is contained inside the gestational sac, so it's not possible for the thing inside to be bigger than the thing outside. The doctor may mean "bigger than expected" or "smaller than expected." I hope this helps. ...Read more
Hi Doctor, Iam 6weeks pregnant. I've taken sonogram test. There is no yolk sac and fetal pole. Size of gestational sac is 21.8mm. Is it problematic?
Maybe: If your dates are accurate then there may be an issue. But suppose your dates are not exactly accurate. Off by a week or two can make a world of difference on an ultrasound. Best talk to your doctor. He will correlate with blood level of HCG and go from there. ...Read more
