Use warm compresses: I would recommend to use warm compresses on the lump three times a day for a week. If it did not go away or started to increase in size or have a white or yellow head you need to have it reevaluated. It might be still a collection and might need to be opened again. ...Read more

Need doctor's help! What do I do if a gum abscess drains on its own?

Need doctor's help! What do I do if a gum abscess drains on its own?

Call dentist: Just because the abscess is draining does not mean the tooth is fine. The bacteria are festering in the bone or gum tissue, and the cause of the abscess needs to be determined and treated. Failure to treat can cause further breakdown of the tooth and bone, and result in the loss of that tooth. ...Read more

After getting a perianal abscess drained out there is itching in the anus while passing stool. Is it a fistula? My doc said for check up after a month

Have a boil on my inner thigh. It came about four days ago when my period started. Really tender and can barely walk. Can the doctor drain it?

Boil.: Draining that boil might be the best step to promote healing. Sometimes these are infected with MRSA, which is an aggressive bacterium resistant to certain antibiotics. With draining the boil, the doctor can send the contents for culture to see what bacterium is involved, thereby tailoring the antibiotic to the bacterium. ...Read more

I had an abscess on my breast and it has been 14 days since it drained, I have hard tissue, skin is still pink scared it maybe inflamatorybreastcance?

Age and Biopsy: Inflammatory breast cancer may appear like an infected breast but not typically produce pus to drain. Missing from your presentation is your age. The older you are, the more serious you need to follow this up with the surgeon who drained your abscess. Judging from your picture, if that's you, this is unlikely breast cancer. Ask your surgeon if a biopsy was done. It's not always necessary. ...Read more

Had an abscess drained from my armpit on 7/20. I still have a hard lump and painful. Could it still be an abscess there or cyst?

Residual disease: Well that should be re-examined by the doctor who cut into it. If it was a surgeon, I expect they will do a proper job in re-exploring the area and taking the necessary action. It's possible the abscess arose from an infected cyst, or there could be some undrained portion that wasn't reached in the first procedure. Hopefully you can go back ASAP to get that looked at. ...Read more

Always: Always you should be able to contact your dentist if you have any concerns about your treatment or recovery. Though it sounds as if all is going well. The antibiotics generally take 48 - 72 hours to kick in and start making you feel better. However, there is a small percentage of cases that do not respond to the particular antibiotics you are using and the infection actually can get dramatically worse very quickly. That is why you should contact your dentist if there are questions regarding this. ...Read more
