My Child Fell And Hit Her Head
How long after a child hits his head would you expect signs of a concussion? My son fell backwards off of his chair onto a hard floor. He is 3.

Most serious head injuries are associated with loss of consciousness, seizure and immediate vomiting. A : A concussion is simply traumatic brain injury as the result to a direct or indirect blow to the head. A ct can rule out fracture or bleeding but cannot diagnose a concussion. A contussion is merely the outer swelling/bruising of the skin and head. Symptoms of concussion include: altered level of consciousness, headache, nasea/vomiting, etc. At this point in time the most important things to rule out are bleed/fracture which the ct did. Now you just need to monitor for improvement. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My 20 month old baby fell and hit her head real good on a door. Now she has a bruise and bump. What to do to bring down swelling? Is she gonna be ok?
Several cues: The kid who is not knocked out, disoriented or confused @ the time of the injury is probably fine. Confusion or repeated episodes of vomiting in the hours after trauma deserve a look over by the dr.Kids under 8 can be allowed to nap on their regular schedule, with you checking in on occasion.Cold compresses can reduce the swelling, if the kid will let you. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Help! i'm extremely worried about my 6 mth baby who hit the back of her head on my wooden dresser! she fell off my bed which is about 2or 3 ft high?
Head Injuries: If she is vomiting she needs to be seen urgently. If she is not vomiting she needs close attention for 24 hours. If she falls asleep this is fine, but is she easily aroused from sleep? I would have you check that every couple of hours during her sleep to make sure she can be aroused. After 24 hours the risks nearly all go away. ...Read more
My 1 year old baby fell and hit his head, and he has a 1 inch diameter bump on the back of head. What should I do?
Head injury: If no loss of conciousness, laceration of the scalp and normally oriented after being consoled , there is no special treatment needed. He can be allowed to eat and nap normally. If he naps longer than normal, awaken him gently and observe for normal interaction. My 4 month old baby fell from couch, flat on his back and hit his head,he was crying for 3-4 minutes then he was smiling and giggling.is he ok?
Impossible to tell..: Intracranial brain damage, called concussion, such as contact athletes commonly suffer, disrupt neural circuits & may tear the crucial fragile capillaries producing cerebral microhemorrhages/?more bleeding. Likely there is not anything useful that anyone can do after the fact, though the younger people are the more they seem able to recover, partially at least, from injuries. Minimize recurrence. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

My 6 month old baby was sitting and fell backwards/ hit her head. Her pupils respond to light equally, no vomiting. Should I wake her every two hours?

So yr infant did NOT lose consciousness (the MOST significant sign post head trauma. Other findings might be seizure, Vomitting. If you want to have an irritable infant don't let them sleep. 6mo Baby rolled from crawling to back and hit head w/hardwood floor and possibly door frame. Cried a bit, played, fed, fell asleep. Reason to go to ER?
Head: No, especially if the baby is acting fine. Watch for extreme irritability, vomiting in the first 4-12 hrs after any potential injury, and if so then ER. But if the baby was on the floor and rolled and hit head, that mechanism of injury shouldn't be severe. If fell off bed onto hardwood floor, then different story. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My 11 month old baby fall forehead first and stretch neck as he was falling he hit forehead first face down and stretch his neck. He keeps rubbing the back of his neck and head. I am worry about him, please let me know if he is ok.
Keep him comforable: It is often very difficult seeing your child getting hurt and having to see the beautiful face bruised and swollen is even harder. But fortunately children heal fast and well. If the skin is not torn and child is not in too much pain, u don't need to do much--just keep an eye on him/her. Tylenol/motrin if needed for pain. It should get better in 2-3 days. If worsens, consult doc. Good luck. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
