How long does it take for a sprain on your left chest above your breast under your shoulder to heal? I'm 17 and weigh 86 pounds and I'm 5, 6.

Seriously skinny!: You are very thin for your size. Unless this is familial you may be underweight from malnutrition. That will make healing from anything way tougher. Please get evaluated as soon as possible. Severe low weight due to poor diet can cause serious medical problems. Decrease activities that cause pain for now. ...Read more

Hey, I'm 17 and underweight but I have a sprain on my left chest area above my breast and below my shoulder. How do you take care of it in that area?

RICE: Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. You can't really do compression to your chest, and it's always elevated except while sleeping. You can take NSAID's (ibuprofen, naproxen, etc.) to help with pain and inflammation. Time will heal most strains/sprains. ...Read more

Non painful swelling on right rib cage around the front middle. Just appeared today. Just had bloodwork chest xray yesterday all normal. Sprain?

Doubt a sprain: Usually if you have a sprain of the rib muscles and tendons it is pretty painful. If this swollen area is not tender when you push on it, I would just watch it and wait, since the x-ray was fine.

I woke up with neck pain and shoulder pain and have had a little big of upper chest pain. Muscle spasm or sprain?

I woke up with neck pain and shoulder pain and have had a little big of upper chest pain. Muscle spasm or sprain?

Spasm or strain: Sprain vs strain vs spasm: a sprain is a stretch and/or tear of a ligament. A strain is an injury of a muscle and/or tendon. Muscles in our body contract and relax consciously and unconsciously. A muscle that involuntarily contracts without our consciously willing it is called a "spasm." if the muscle maintains sustained "spasm", it becomes a cramp. ...Read more

Pleurisy vs sprained muscle? Pain during inspiration right upper lung woke me up a 4AM. Not getting worse or better. Does pleurisy require an RX?

Not necessarily: Pleurisy is a viral infection that affects the lining of the chest cavity causing inflammation and irritation. The pain during inspiration is caused by the expanding lung touching the irritated chest cavity. Usually these symptoms will go away on their own as the virus clears the system. Rx meds are not necessarily needed. Can use Motrin to treat the inflammation and relieve the irritation. ...Read more
