Dysphagia?: Narrowing of the esophagus due to inflammation, scarring or tumor can cause food to get stuck. Not rare with chronic reflux/heartburn symptoms-typically solids. Tight lower esoph sphincter can cause also. Abnormalities in muscles/nerves/coordination of swallow cause problems with solids and liquids. See a GI doc. Don't bother...: Swallowing mucus is safe. It is difficult for a budding 'early toddler' to have maturity & skills to spit out phlegm. Don't sweat, mucus mixes with the contents of his/her stomach & passes through the digestive system. May need evaluation: This may be related to nose bleed going down to your lungs. The most common cause of bleeding from lungs is a coughing spell which can break small blood vessels in the bronchial tubes. If the chest hurts it may suggest bronchitis, angina, chest wall pain, and musculoskeletal pain. Is it tender to touch. Good to know that you do not smoke. Burps: While it may be normal to burp. What needs to be checked is if she has reflux. Chronic reflux has been associated with bronchospastic issues (asthma) breathing issues. If it's heartburn...: If it's heartburn, one can try antacids like maalox, mylanta, or tums. There are also acid-blocking medications like Pepcid otc. But, such symptoms may be other things instead of simple reflux. The patient could have esophagitis, stomach cancer, h pylori infection, heart disease, etc...
