If spleen is bloated and that patient suffering from polycythemia vera what does it mean?

If spleen is bloated and that patient suffering from polycythemia vera what does it mean?

P. Vera & spleen: Polycythemia vera (P. vera) is a condition in which a gene mutation (JAK-2) causes uncontrolled production of red blood cells (rbc) that carry oxygen in the bloodstream. Typically, rbc production is confined to the bone marrow, but in p. vera, the spleen can be a site of rbc production, growing in size. Untreated P. vera is a serious disease, but when treated, prognosis is quite good. ...Read more

I have had polycythemia vera about 10 years. Now my blood work is reversed and low numbers. What does that mean? I am so tired

See your doctor.: The hematologist who first did the evaluation on the polycythemia would be a good reference for the subsequent anemia. Low rbc levels will cause significant fatigue due to inadequate transport of oxygen. The underlying cause may be much more serious than polycythemia -- get this checked out asap. ...Read more

I have had polycythemia vera for about 10 years. My blood work has reversed. Does this mean the blood marrow is spent and I am going into ppmm? Or cml

See hematologist: Reversal of blood counts, i.e. Erythrocytosis to anemia, frequently indicates progression of marrow fibrosis in polycythemia vera. If the spleen is also enlarging, this would be a concern. A hematologist can determine why the blood counts are changing and might suggest a bone marrow examination. ...Read more
