Sounds normal: Babies do what they do while settling. They also drool because they make spit and have no social burden of having to hide it.It is not seizure activity or abnormal in any way. ...Read more

My bf been feeling sleepy the whole day and when he tries to sleep . He keep waking up in the middle of his sleep. How can he overcome this problem?

He needs to see a : Sleep specialist for an evaluation including an overnight polysomnogram. Sleep apnea, narcolepsy and idiopathic CNS hypersomnolence are diagnostic considerations. On a more personal note, i was in the first group of american students to visit lviv in 1977. I will never forget the incredible hospitality and the great fun we all had dancing late into the night. Many thanks to the kind people of lviv. Best wishes. ...Read more

My son is 6 weeks and 9lbs14oz. Is it ok to wake him up every 3 hour during the day so hopefully he will sleep at night or feed him his bottle on demand?

Feeding schedule: In my many years of experience, babies who do not sleep more than 3 hours during the day start sleeping longer at night. Go ahead, there is no harm in trying what you propose. Good luck. ...Read more

Baby had 3 set of jabs 3days ago.She is screaming a lot hardly taking any milk. She wants to sleep all the time, she doesn't seem well at all.help plz?

Concerning symptoms: I am very concerned about your baby's symptoms today. Poor feeding, inconsolable nature, and excessive sleepiness warrant a visit today in either an urgent care or emergency room. It is possible that these symptoms are shot (jab) related, but baby needs an exam today to evaluate this. This could also be a serious infection, so don't delay. ...Read more

My baby is 8mnths, breastfed, doesn't sleep well through the night (every 2or 3 hrs he wakes up).I take one cup of caffeine before 2pm.M.What would help?

My baby is 8mnths, breastfed, doesn't sleep well through the night (every 2or 3 hrs he wakes up).I take one cup of caffeine before 2pm.M.What would help?

See below: I don't think the caffeine is your problem. At 8 months infants are now more "spoilable" and are begining to understand the concept of cause and effect-object permanence. This is also a time of more awareness of the surroundings and perhaps when breastmilk is giving way to more solid foods. You might allow self soothing during the night or delay attention to the night time cry if possible. ...Read more

Check growth chart: Some babies do start sleeping all night at this age although it is less common. Providing your baby isn't showing signs of illness and is growing well, this is likely not cause for concern. Feeding intervals every three hours while awake should be considered. Have your pediatrician plot the birth weight and current weight on a growth chart to be certain that this pattern is acceptable. ...Read more

Bb is 6months, i put her to bed on her back when she sleeps, 10 min later she would flip on her tummy or side and sleep like that all night for 10 hours?

Bb is 6months, i put her to bed on her back when she sleeps, 10 min later she would flip on her tummy or side and sleep like that all night for 10 hours?

Fine: I quit worrying about sleep position when the kid starts to turn over on their own. The crib death issue peeks and fades before then. I always want to put them down on their back, but i would not loose any sleep over what position she chooses.I would keep the blankets, bumpers and pillows out of the bed so she does not wrap up and suffocate in them. ...Read more

My baby 2 months old from her birth she does not sleep at night, she wakes up to 7-8 hours at night before sleeping. How to change her sleep pattern ?

Breast or bottle?: During the day, rouse her gently after 2 1/2-3 hours. Engage her in gooing & cooing & putting her on her tummy to play. Have a consistent bedtime at night, read, rock & cuddle in low light. Wipe out her mouth after the last feed to establish the habit. Put her in her crib in her own room, on her back, drowsy but awake. She'll learn to self-calm to fall asleep & may sleep 6 hrs by 4-6 mos. ...Read more

My baby is 3 months and will only sleep in stroller. When can I stop worrying about sids if she doesn't crib sleep?

My baby is 3 months and will only sleep in stroller. When can I stop worrying about sids if she doesn't crib sleep?

6 months: Sids is related to more than sleeping in a crib. For everyone's well-being, get baby out of a stroller for sleeping and into an empty crib with a firm mattress. No pillow, animals, blanket or bumper pads. Have her tummy-sleep. Don't smoke. Once she is rolling over consistently both ways, you can feel comfortable that sids is highly unlikely, usually by 6 months. The crib is the safest place! ...Read more

When traveling w/6 months old to country that is 9 hours ahead will it cause my baby sleep all day(now he sleeps all night)and be awake through night?

It may take a few: days for your baby (and you) to adjust to the time difference. Depending on when you are leaving, you may be able to help that transition, but adjusting his sleep schedule a little bit at a time before you go. Otherwise you can keep him as awake as you can during the daytime once you're there and hopefully move the schedule to be more accommodating to the new time. ...Read more

My wife spoon feeds milk to our 15 months baby during night when he is asleep. Is it safe? Also she feeds him every 4 hours be its day or night, safe?

My wife spoon feeds milk to our 15 months baby during night when he is asleep. Is it safe? Also she feeds him every 4 hours be its day or night, safe?

Potentially harmful: Potential harms are development of dental caries with night feeds and obesity from overfeeding. A neurotypical child that age can both finger-feed himself & use a spoon, spilling little. Not allowing him to do so hampers development of independent self-help skills. First you & your wife together need to hear what his pede has to say. Try to state the problem without shame or blame. ...Read more

I think my one and a half month baby has colic. He starts crying at 11 pm every night. What can I do to comfort him?

I think my one and a half month baby has colic. He starts crying at 11 pm every night. What can I do to comfort him?

Depends on cause: Babies cry for a reason. Some babies respond to pressure (swaddling), others to motion (swings, rides in the car), some to digestive aids (gas drops, ginger, fennel), some to formula change (to something hydrolized) or to maternal diet change (removing dairy or gassy food like broccoli and beans from mom's diet). Some, for whom you find no cause, respond to homeopathic colic remedies. Try it all. ...Read more

I feed my 11week old before I put her to sleep at night. She wakes up for night feedings. How do I stop this habit and get her to sleep thru the night?

Feed to wake: If a kid is fed as they wake up, changed later & stimulated until they tire, they do not need to be fed again before sleep. After a 2+hour sleep, they awake to feed & start over. Feeding prior to sleep sets up feeding as necessary with settling. An infant can only learn to self settle in the night if they are not trained to require feeding or rocking or whatever to settle in sleep. ...Read more

I put my 11 months old baby to sleep at 7:00 and he wakes up at 3:00 am i give him milk? Should eliminate the night milk?

Does not need it: At 11 months, a child who is growing normally does not need a night feeding. It is safe to eliminate the feeding completely. You can just stop giving him the 3 am feeding, or you can gradually reduce the volume over the course of a few days if that is more comfortable for you. Some parents switch the milk to water and find that this gradually weans the baby off the feeding. Good luck! ...Read more

Why wont my 1 month old baby go to sleep during the night? He sleeps good during the day, seems to be more active at night.

6 months: The majority of babies will sleep through the night by 6 months. We consider 6-8 hours as sleeping through the night. 1 month old babies have no concept of night and day. You can try to keep him awake a little more each time he is up and very slowly he will sleep more at night. ...Read more

I have 8 month old baby boy and I recognize this week when he sleep his fingers and toes twitching. I am so worried may be this is a problem?

Not unusual: Babies have a lot of dream sleep (REM sleep) and may move in many ways during sleep. I would be concerned if he's having rhythmic movement while awake that doesn't respond when you hold his arm or leg. That can be a sign of a seizure problem and should be checked by his doctor. ...Read more

8 month old baby twitches while sleeping is that normal or should i be worried?

Dreams: She is likely just dreaming, causing her to twitch which is the most common cause of twitching like this. I know you're probably worried if she's having seizures or something more serious like that. There's an entity called Infantile Spasms but she doesn't quite fit the criteria for that either. If she starts truly flexing her upper body, at the next or waist, take her to her pediatriian ...Read more

Twitching: Babies have an immature nervous system, and it's hard for them to control their reflexes and responses to stimuli such as noise and temperature. To make sure erratic movements are benign, lightly hold down the arm or leg that's twitching. If the movement stops, no problem. If it doesnt stop or happens when baby is awake, then an evaluation is needed. ...Read more
