My 9 year old had very bad chest pain. After a visit to the doctor, we found out he has nodules on his lungs. What would cause that?

Workup/mgt: Pulmonary nodules have a distinct appearance on CT scans. The pain suggests that the lining of the lung is involved or that there could be involvement of the nerves/muscles or rib cage.
I would suggest that he be tested for TB and other fungal infections. Once a cause is established, immune workup as well. Pulmd@aol. Com to review more history/scans. ...Read more

Hello Dr my 9yr old son has a rash on the back of his neck and chest. What could this be?

Rash: There are many causes for rashes. In children, most are not harmful. A doctor would need to see the rash to identify its cause and treatment. However, in general, rashes that itch would respond to an antihistamine (benedryl). A rash that is not changing can be watched to see if it would resolve on its own. 9 yr old son has 15 freckles on his neck & chest the size of apple seeds. He hates them and wants them gone. Is there anything that can be done 4 him?

Not advisable: They could be surgically removed, but scar likely more noticeable than freckles. Otc fade creams unlikely to work, and I wouldn't advise rx. Better to reduce the number of new freckles which increase with sun exposure. Use a spf product everyday, not just when spending the day at the beach, and be sure to apply enough, and reapply through out the day. ...Read more

My 13 year old has been complaining of these lil balls in his chest by the nipple they are very sore what should I do?

Male breast tissue: Breast buds affect ~1/2 males in early puberty and may affect one or both sides concurrently. The process reflects an awakening of the body to hormonal changes. It generally persists for a year or less & disappears gradually. Rare cases can become prominent. Discuss it at any regular dr visit, but I wouldn't go in for this alone unless your kid is going bonkers over the issue & needs reassurance. ...Read more
