My 5 Month Old Baby Is Constipated What Can I Give Him To Relive The Problem
Water: Most constipation is due to dehydration. Give him or her a little extra water or dilute his milk or formula with water. You can also try mineral oil, which is a clear oil, that you can mix with food or drink and this will naturally soften stool. If baby is throwing up, fevers, or not eating and excessively fussy, you need to contact your pediatrician. Try vaselline on rectum too. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
CONSTIPATION: Breast fed babies can have a bowel movement every 5-7 days, or 5-7 times a day. Don't know whether your child if on breast milk. If not, give extra fluid/water, oatmeal cereal, more vegetable with some green leafy vegetables, some prune juice. Sometimes change of formula with whey protein containing one helps in regular bowel movement with bulky stool. If still concern, see baby's pediatrician. ...Read more
What do I do if my 5 month old baby has bad acid reflux? I put rice cereal in his bottle but it only makes him constipated.
6 months: Years ago, breastfeading was frowned on & many made "formula" from boiled cow milk&karo. Since cow milk is designed for calves, infants were fed early & often to make up for deficiences in cow milk. Now that breast is back, or formulas mimic breast, solids are optional. The sitting child is more capable of participating & few sit before 6m. Babies can wait past a year and thrive. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
What is the appropriate dose of infant tylenol (acetaminophen) to give to a 5 month old for fever?
My breastfed infant is a month old and for the last few days she has been having 1-2 bowel movements a day. Is she constipated if so what to give her?
Probably OK: It is not unusual for babies to have change in stool pattern as they grow. . Also, it is normal for breastfed babies to have longer periods of time with no stools. Breast milk is the perfect baby food, thus there is less "waste" so to speak. If the baby's stomach is not distended, and he has a large soft stool infrequently this is not constipation requiring intervention. ...Read more

My 3.5 month old baby sleeps for max 45 min stretches at night. This doesn't seem normal for babies of this age. Is this bad for his development?
Will get by: Baby will do better than you with this. I would change the kid back to a more traditional night pattern. If you never allow the kid more than 2 hours of sleep at a time during the day, waking him to feed or whatever, you can get his deep sleep segment to go back to nights when you don't wake him.Don't feed prior to sleep, only feed on awakening. ...Read more
My 3.5 month old baby smiles and babbles the whole time but he does not laugh yet. Should I be worried?
When do babies generally start to laugh?
Laughing and babblin: Your son is doing just fine! Babbling responsively is the beginnings of verbal communication and probably more important than laughing. The deliciousness that is a baby's laugh is not far behind. It can be hard to wait. ...Read more
Get baby checked: Constipation at this age is either diet related, i.e excessive dairy intake or some reason for them to hold stools like an anal fissure, for which a proper exam will be helpful. In the meantime, u can add more vegetables to his diet and give him Karo syrup or prune juice. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I took my 5 month old to the Dr. today. One hand is noticeably swollen. He believes it is from my infant sucking on his hand. Is that possible?
What precautions can I take if I have a cold sore and am nursing and looking after my 1.5 month old infant? Worried she will catch it from me :(
Cold Sore-: There is no contraindication to breast feeding if you have a cold sore. It may rather help the baby to get immunity from you through breast milk. Just maintain personal hygiene, cover the sore on your lip or face with petrolatum jelly or similar, clean yourself, wash hands before nursing. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My 5 month old has a really bad cough. I took him to his pediatrician. The doctor said nothing is wrong. How do you get rid of an infant cough?
Many things help: You can put a humidifier in the room (cool mist is best), raise the head of the crib a few inches, and a number of other things depending on what the cause is. Problems in babies can look different from one day to the next. If there is trouble breathing, poor feeding, irritability or fever, see your pediatrician again. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

What is the best way to relieve an 8 month infant of constipation? He was 2 months premature, does this affect what I can and cannot give him?
Pear juice: 2 to 4 oz of pear juice for infants once or twice daily can help with constipation. The juice contains sorbitol, a natural sugar which is not well absorbed intestinally. Is it safe to give an infant of 1 month a suppository? How often and what's best for infant constipation?
Sometimes: Many children become constipated but it is by no means normal - many parents use an occasional glycerin suppository without issue but you really should discuss this with your doctor and have the child checked as this is not normal and possibly a change in diet or a medication may be more helpful especially if this is chronic ...Read more
