Bronchodilator: If the cough is effective and the mucus clears easily from the lower airway nothing is needed. But, if the mucus seems to be difficult to clear there may be some bronchospasm and the child may be helped by using a bronchodilator such as albuteral. It can be delivered by using a nebulizer or and inhaler with a spacer. In some cases an inhaled steroid may be also beneficial. See your doctor. ...Read more
FEVER: Mostly caused by viruses, low to high grade fever, gets better in 3-5 days, max 7-10 days. As long as the child is acting ok, drinking and peeing well, give Acetaminophen 4-6 hourly for fever 101 f or above. If sick looking, not eating or drinking well, fever more than 104.5 needs to be seen. If you are in an area where there is outbreak of a new infectiion, e.g. Meningitis, see the doc asap. ...Read more

But watch out for any signs of meningitis which would cause headache, drowsiness/lethargy and can make a child ill very quickly. In that case you need to be prepared to take him to an er or to your peditrician(i hope he has a pediatric doctor to help/guide you). Tylenol (acetaminophen) can be repeated every 6 hourly and will keep fever down and comfort. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Prob. constipatios: This can be a complex issue depending on whether your childhas a successful kasai procedure or not. My 3 year old son has muscus in his poop and smells really sour, he has had it for at least 3/4 weeks ?
Mucous: Children do swallow quite a bit of mucous from their nose and throat (they aren't particularly effective at blowing their nose or coughing phlegm out). This can end up in their stool as well. If the stool is very loose, more than 4-5 times per day, there may be an infection cause, and your child should be seen by his doctor. ...Read more

My 3 year old has a fever of 101.2 after being outside all day. Should i worry? What can I do to help her.
Fever: If it is summer in your locality, make sure that the fever is not from dehydration. If she is not uncomfortable/restless, try not to give a fever reducer unless her temperature continues to rise but instead urge her to drink lots of fluids. Recheck her temperature every 4 hrs. In colder climates, fever is caused by infection ; if persistent after 24 hrs with added symptoms, bring her to thedoctor. ...Read more
Hi, My 3 year old has been getting fevers going to 38degrees every night for the past week. Paracetamol is dropping it but it comes back in the night.
Not impressive: A low grade fever like this will often accompany a mild viral illness. If it does not otherwise alter his activities I would ignore it. It doesn't need meds. It should pass in a few days. If his feeding & play are off or he develops other specific symptoms he should be evaluated. ...Read more
My 3 year old has had a fever for 9 days low grade to 103. Her blood work was ok with elevated monocytes ... ne for flu .. no meds .. what could it b?
Fever + ?? symptoms: Normal blood work except elevated monos suggests a viral infection, and there are other viruses in additon to influenza that can cause fevers, but usually there are other symptoms and findings on exam to support dx, ie, cough, congestion, diarrhea. Children this age do get infectious mono, but usually with sore throat and nodes. Has urine been checked for UTI? Repeat exam in 5 days if still T ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My 3 year old has fever, diarrhoea and some pinkish blood in her stool. Can anyone advise what this might be?
My 3 year old has had a fever now for 24 hours straight we have been giving him Advil and tylenol (acetaminophen) on and off. Should we take him to the dr or just try and ride it out ?
How high?: You do not mention how high the fever is. If you have a temp that is less than 100.5 rectal, and your child otherwise looks good, i would try to give him a tepid bath and maybe some popsicles. Low grade temps are part of the immune system trying to fight off an infection. I would not recommend alternating Motrin and tylenol (acetaminophen) for this. Any other symptoms? If you have any concern go to the dr. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My 3 year old son has a fever of 100.3, and he is frequently been going to the bathroom with only a little bit of urination each time.
My 3 year old son has a fever of 103 and an extremely rapid heart rate, but no other symptoms. Is the rapid heart rate normal or do I need to go er?
Normal increase: Thhe effect of fever on a kids system includes an acceleration of the heart rate by about 10 beats/min per degree fahrenheight. There is also an increase in the breathing rate by 5 breaths/min. If all you have is fever and the natural heard and breathing response, a fever reducer and observation is in order.A regullar office visit later is fine if you decide to. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My 3 year old son has a fever, cough and runny nose what should I do? Rush him to the doctor or try to break whatever it is?
Comfort measures: The average 3yo will have 5 respiratory & 2-3 diarrheal illnesses/yr.Many will have fever/most will self heal. Fever is not the enemy it is a signal that a kids system is trying to make the body too hot for germs to reproduce. It also increases blood flow & allows the immune system to kick in faster. If the kid is hydrated enough to pee every 6 hrs he can wait overnight & be reassessed in the am. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
