My 3 month old bottle fed baby is constipated. What can I do to help him?

My 3 month old bottle fed baby is constipated. What can I do to help him?

Also, is he truly : constipated? Babies don't need to have a bowel movement every day, so unless the stools are very hard, and infrequent and he is uncomfortable, you don't need to do anything. You can give him extra water in between his bottles of formula. If that doesn't help, please consult with his doctor. ...Read more

My breastfed infant is a month old and for the last few days she has been having 1-2 bowel movements a day. Is she constipated if so what to give her?

Probably OK: It is not unusual for babies to have change in stool pattern as they grow. . Also, it is normal for breastfed babies to have longer periods of time with no stools. Breast milk is the perfect baby food, thus there is less "waste" so to speak. If the baby's stomach is not distended, and he has a large soft stool infrequently this is not constipation requiring intervention. ...Read more

What should I do about constipation in a 1 week old infant?

What should I do about constipation in a 1 week old infant?

Constipation in baby: I would start by asking if the baby is actually constipated. Often babies (especially breast fed infants) don't stool as often. Many people think this means they are constipated. Some breast fed infants poop once a week! if the baby is gaining weight well and the stool is soft when it comes out then the baby is fine. If the stool is hard (like rabbit pellets) then you should talk to your doctor. ...Read more

My 12 week old formula fed infant appears to be constipated. Is there anything I can do to help him have a bowel movement?

My 12 week old formula fed infant appears to be constipated. Is there anything I can do to help him have a bowel movement?

Yes, but...: Keep in mind the symptoms of constipation are by definition hard and painful to pass stools. Remember a little pushing and uncomfortableness is ok as long as the stools are soft. Also an every other day stool for some bottle fed babies is fine. Keep in mind the position babies are in as they stool, FLAT ON THEIR BACK. Can you imagine? One oz water and one oz apple juice once will help. ...Read more

A 3 week old breast feeding infant. Does this baby need extra water from a bottle if constipated? Does this baby need to take water from a bottle?

No!: Breast milk provides everything that infants need. Breast fed babies may have bms with every feed, or as infrequently as 1-2 times a week, soft/mushy stools. Talk specifics with dr. ...Read more

I changed the formula on my 3month old from enfamil infant to enfamil a.R he passes stools 5 times a day now: yellow thicker w/ mucus is that normal?

Yes: The difference between the two formulas is that the ar contains a rice starch to "thicken" the formula a bit so that the baby doesn't spit up as much. This can increase fiber content in the stool, making the stools a bit thicker. 5 poops a day for a 3 month old is totally normal. Babies poop a lot! ...Read more
