My 2 Year Old Has Barking Cough And Runny Nose Should He Be Seen
Maybe: Just playing the odds, he probably has a cold or a mild case of croup. But if there's a question of his safety in your mind, then better safe than sorry. Here's some basic guidelines i use: if he's having trouble breathing (not just coughing), if he's refusing to drink, not urinating, in pain, inconsolably irritable or barely responsive, he definitely needs to be seen. Beyond that, it's your judgement. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

3.5 yr old had runny nose and low grade temp last wk. Now barking cough & 38.7 degree Celsius temp. Can hear phlegm dripping in back of throat.
This is probably: viral, but if she/he isn't drinking fluids, complains of pain, or is having difficulty breathing, I would recommend checking in with her/his doctor. For 3 days I've had a barking cough, a slight fever, body aches, runny nose and im weak and shakey. What could it be and should I see a doctor?
Yes: You could have whooping cough, which is a bacterial infection that may appear to be a severe cold. If you do have it, you are contagious, and antibiotics will help you get better faster, and prevent you giving it to others. Most respiratory infections are viral, and antibiotics do not help. As much as possible, keep him away from others, as what he has is probably contagious. Honey can relieve coughs and soothe throats. Have him checked by his doctor to determine if he needs any kind of treatment, or just time for this illness to resolve. ...Read more

My 2 1/2 year old son has a little runny nose, a wet cough. He seems to breath with a noise as he breathes. Its hard to explain but he fully active.?
Nasal noise: The nose & upper airway of small kids is a bit rubbery & vibrates when additional air is moving through with a cough or deep breath. This can produce lots of odd sounds/squeaks. The inner membranes of the nose can swell & constrict the nasal passages increasing the noise & vibrations.A kids general play activity is a good gauge of how sick they are, so this sounds minor. ...Read more
