Chipped baby tooth question? My two year old chipped a front top tooth, just very slightly. Is this something I need to be worried about? .

I: I would say I get at least one child a day with the same concern that you have at this time. If the chip is just in the enamel of the tooth the child will not have cold sensitivity because there are no nerve fibers in that layer of tooth. However if the tooth was bumped it may turn dark in two to three weeks and may have slight mobility. If the tooth had bleeding around the gums and mobility I would definitely take your child to the dentist for an exam. If your child has never been to a dentist this would be great time to start. ...Read more

@ 2, let them be: Kids need to pacify themselves. Sometimes an object, sometimes a finger or two or a thumb. If it is occurring at this age, leave them be. They psychologically need it. It will very likely subside as peer pressure enters into the equation. If after 5 it does not abate, small measures can be taken, but too early an intervention may have implications far beyond dental. ...Read more
