Crying baby: Okay. Start with some Tylenol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen for the pain. Then call the doctor for a check up. Sore throat, ear infection or both are possibilities. My daughter has a bad cough but no fever should I take her in?

My daughter has a bad cough but no fever should I take her in?

Uncomfortable?: Age? If you are uncomfortable with the way she looks or the way she is acting, you should have her seen. Unless she is wheezing or grunting, in general, it is less important how the cough sounds than how the child looks. If she has a history of asthma or pneumonias, if the cough has been progressing or lasting a week, if her breathing is labored or she appears uncomfortable, have her evaluated. ...Read more

11 month old with a bad cough and some wheezing... Should I bring her in?

ADL assessment: The need for any visit is often best decided by how their activities of daily living (ADL) are altered. If an 11 mo is playful, resting well when appropriate, feeding normally, it is less an issue then when not. Many simple viral colds, URI's that will self heal will produce this pattern. When the intensity of her symptoms slows her down, it is a good idea to check it out. ...Read more

9yr old has harsh bad cough for over 2 weeks with little congestion no fever feeling fine. Does this require antibiotic? Can't seem to rid cough

Hard to say: Antibiotics are useless in treating cough unless there is a bacterial infection causing it. Some kids with simple viral bronchitis will cough hard for up to a month.
