Muscle Spasms In Foot And Toes
Muscle spasms legs, feet and side back come and go, mild but noticeable. Had for 1 month. Is it MS, ALS will I get paralysed?
No: Someone has been reading too many medical horror stories. It is mega highly unlikely that spasms in an otherwise healthy 20 year old represent anything but overuse or electrolyte disturbance. The diseases you mention generally do not begin like that. See your family doc for an evaluation and reassurance of the correct diagnosis, so you can get this problem resolved. ...Read more

Do I have a vitamin B12 deficiency or MS? I'm 19, female with tingling, numbness in head/scalp, feet, legs, and hands. Muscle spasm? Anxiety maybe?
Numb/tingling in hands, legs, and feet on both sides. Muscle spasms in legs, back and arms. Loss of balance, dizzy, stiff. Is it Neuropathy or ms?
Bad choices: You probably don't need or want to pick A or B. Both require a doctor's DX and TX and it might be another thing altogether. A common cause of neuropathy is a diabetic condition w/ other signs too - are you a diabetic? Get into care if 'yes'! MS usually starts a bit later in age. Have an exam to find an answer. Best! ...Read more
On left foot, toe next to big toe has been numb for a month. Muscle spasms with same toe since 2006. What does this mean? Any connection?
Numbness to this toe: Can be felt from a neuroma or sometimes entrapment of the deep peroneal nerve as it gets entrapped by the extensor digits rum brevis muscle belly. It would be prudent to determine if the numbness is located on both the medial and lateral sides of the toe or just one. If the digit spasms i'd also look at possibility of adding magnesium supplements to your diet and see if that helps. ...Read more
I have continuous pain and muscle spasms on my entire right side body (from head to toe). What is it? Drs can't find a diagnosis.
Good question!: More history would be helpful including when it started etc. There are lesions in the brain which could result in one sided pain or muscle spasms., but they are quite rare. I would tend to look for a practitioner skilled in Chinese medicine/acupuncture for a possible solution. Another option might be a somatization disorder related to previous trauma coming from your right side. ...Read more
Tape feet: There are mutiple causes of cramps to your feet during ballet. The most common is small muscle fatigue in the foot. Try taping your foot to support the arch; rolling your arch area over a tennis ball prior to exercise, and using an analgesic cream, and you may want to start drinking some tonic water (which contains quinine) that helps eliminate the cramping. See your podiatrist if unsuccesful. ...Read more

I have tarsal coalition and in extreme pain my doc gave me tizanidine for muscle spasms in my back will it help to relieve some pain in my foot too?
Tarsal coalition: Tarsal coalition is a congenital condition that affects the bones of the foot. A Tarsal coalition occurs when the bones of the feet fail to separate during fetal development It causes a stiff flat foot that is painful. Tizanidine (Zanaflex) as you said is a muscle relaxant and has no pain relieving properties. You need to discuss this with your Orthopedic doctor --there is surgical correction. ...Read more
Are occasional muscle spasms on the side of your foot and in your hands normal? Had unrelated brain MRI and neuro consult 6 months ago, came back fine
Muscle cramps: Are more likely to occur if your fluid / electrolyte status is a bit off. An example of this is the cramping that can occur when you play sports and attempt to replace sweat with pure water instead of a special sports drink like Gatorade. I would not expect the problem to show up on an MRI. tell your doctor about the cramping ...Read more
I have constant hip pain and muscle spasms in my thigh and calf with numbness in the outer half of my foot. What other tests besides MRI should happen?
Nerve damage: What your experiencing is nerve damage. It will or may be permanent if the cause is not corrected. Nerve conduction velocity is needed to help determine this. I would get the MRI asap. Then have your physician refer you to a neurosurgeon and neurologist to get further evaluation. A normal MRI and abnormal nerve study may indicate a more severe condition in terms of a demyelinating process. ...Read more

Hip/ butt muscle spasms on left side like charlie horse. Recent MS dx. Possible symptom? Very painful lasted 2 days already. Suggestions?
SOME THOTS: Pain is very common in ms, and can present numerous ways, and even migraine is present in ms pts at a frequency of 2-4 times normals. However, your muscle spasms could represent a separate process in hip, back, pelvis. (unlikely, but if you were given steroids, check for avascular necrosis in hip). Lastly, do not want to second guess your doc, but there are oral meds now (no needles). ...Read more
Back and shoulders are knotted up from muscle spasms. I have ms. Why would the area feel hot to touch, but no where else? I'm currently relapsing.
I have been diganosed with both trigeminal neralgia and occipital neuralgia. I also have some memory problems and muscle spasms. Could I have ms?
Challenging?: You seem to have very complex issues, and I would certainly wonder about an underlying unitary diagnosis. Ms could cause fatigue, memory loss, and trigeminal neuralgia, but usually not occipital neuralgia. Maybe MRI of brain and spinal cord could illuminate the picture. Might also want to check for lupus, lyme disease, and even hiv. Perhaps get full evaluation at a local medical school. ...Read more
Could I have multiple sclerosis even if my MRI was normal? I have a lot of the symptoms (muscle spasm, weakness, tingling down my back and legs), but my MRI didn’t show anything. Can an MRI miss ms?
Typically not: Mri is the most sensitive test available to aid in the diagnosis of ms. While there are rare cases of MRI negative ms, the vast, vast, vast majority of patients with ms have MRI abnormalities. Having said that, given your symptoms it would be important to know if the cervical and thoracic spinal cord were imaged. If brain and spinal cord imaging negative then not likely to be ms. ...Read more
Episodes of tremors, numbness, foot drop, vision and balance problems in a 37 year-old woman.....?
It is a body tissue that has the ability to contract. It shortens and generates force. It relaxes and returns to its original length. Muscles move joints, stabilize the body, move air and food through the organs, act as valves for bladder, bowel and other organs. They control movement of the eyes. They help us express ourselves by changing the shape of our ...Read more
