Muscle Spasms After Car Accident
Please explain straightening of the lumbar spine after car accident that causes muscle spasms in lower back, radiculopathy, and numbness in leg.
Muscle spasms are typically painful involuntary muscle contracures which can occur in any part of the body, such as the neck, back and legs. There are various causes of muscle spasms such as recent injury or trauma and dehydration. Typically, patients can modify activity, rest, stretch, utilize heat or ice for treatment of muscle spasms. Rarely, patients can also ...Read more
Back and shoulders are knotted up from muscle spasms. I have ms. Why would the area feel hot to touch, but no where else? I'm currently relapsing.
Could I have multiple sclerosis even if my MRI was normal? I have a lot of the symptoms (muscle spasm, weakness, tingling down my back and legs), but my MRI didn’t show anything. Can an MRI miss ms?
Typically not: Mri is the most sensitive test available to aid in the diagnosis of ms. While there are rare cases of MRI negative ms, the vast, vast, vast majority of patients with ms have MRI abnormalities. Having said that, given your symptoms it would be important to know if the cervical and thoracic spinal cord were imaged. If brain and spinal cord imaging negative then not likely to be ms. ...Read more
Hip/ butt muscle spasms on left side like charlie horse. Recent MS dx. Possible symptom? Very painful lasted 2 days already. Suggestions?
SOME THOTS: Pain is very common in ms, and can present numerous ways, and even migraine is present in ms pts at a frequency of 2-4 times normals. However, your muscle spasms could represent a separate process in hip, back, pelvis. (unlikely, but if you were given steroids, check for avascular necrosis in hip). Lastly, do not want to second guess your doc, but there are oral meds now (no needles). ...Read more
I have been diganosed with both trigeminal neralgia and occipital neuralgia. I also have some memory problems and muscle spasms. Could I have ms?
Challenging?: You seem to have very complex issues, and I would certainly wonder about an underlying unitary diagnosis. Ms could cause fatigue, memory loss, and trigeminal neuralgia, but usually not occipital neuralgia. Maybe MRI of brain and spinal cord could illuminate the picture. Might also want to check for lupus, lyme disease, and even hiv. Perhaps get full evaluation at a local medical school. ...Read more
Muscle spasms legs, feet and side back come and go, mild but noticeable. Had for 1 month. Is it MS, ALS will I get paralysed?
No: Someone has been reading too many medical horror stories. It is mega highly unlikely that spasms in an otherwise healthy 20 year old represent anything but overuse or electrolyte disturbance. The diseases you mention generally do not begin like that. See your family doc for an evaluation and reassurance of the correct diagnosis, so you can get this problem resolved. ...Read more
Do I have a vitamin B12 deficiency or MS? I'm 19, female with tingling, numbness in head/scalp, feet, legs, and hands. Muscle spasm? Anxiety maybe?
Numb/tingling in hands, legs, and feet on both sides. Muscle spasms in legs, back and arms. Loss of balance, dizzy, stiff. Is it Neuropathy or ms?
Bad choices: You probably don't need or want to pick A or B. Both require a doctor's DX and TX and it might be another thing altogether. A common cause of neuropathy is a diabetic condition w/ other signs too - are you a diabetic? Get into care if 'yes'! MS usually starts a bit later in age. Have an exam to find an answer. What can cause my neck and shoulder muscles to stay stuff and hard and knotted up all the time? I feel as if I been in a car accident. Painful.
Stiffness and muscle spasm in your neck and shoulder girdle can be due to various causes such as: stress causing you to tense up your neck/shoulder muscles; unhealthy position of neck/head when sleeping; carrying heavy back pack or shoulder bag and occasionally a pinched nerve in the neck can cause pain and stiffness.

Take breaks: I would not recommend being the driver on this road trip if possible, especially not if you're taking pain medications that cause sedation or impaired ability to drive. During the trip, take regular breaks to get out of the car, stretch and relax. Take a break every 30-60 min, or whenever you find the discomfort increasing. ...Read more
Why won't the pain go away? I had cancer in my neck 5 years ago and had many muscles removed plus intence radiation and chemo. Since than I got into a car accident and got whiplash. They say I have a disc out of place but was out of place before the accide
Typically during radiation of the neck for cancer, the spine is shielded/protected, so direct damage is not likely. That being said, extensive neck surgery for cancer and radiation therapy with chemo can cause severe scarring and fibrosis in the musculature. This can cause bad alignment of the musculoskeletal system. Physical therapy can often help the problem. The initial treatments can be uncomfortable, but with more work, the muscles and scarring can loosen up and flexibility increases and the pain will gradually improve.
On the other hand, 5 years since treatment of your head and neck cancer without recurrence is technically a cure. ...Read more

I was in a car accident early Sat a.m. went to ER chest X-ray was clear. Airbags deployed. My upper rt leg muscle is now throbbing. Is this a clot?
Most likely you had: A contusion (blunt trauma related injury) to your R leg, perhaps causing a small hematoma (blood bruise) in your deep muscle. These typically cause the most pain and swelling. However a venous clot certainly cannot be completely excluded especially if you have risk factors for blood clots (e.g. smoking, recent surgery or long distance travel, cancer, etc.). If it continues to hurt a lot, see MD ...Read more

It is possible I could be feeling my baby move? I'm 11 weeks and it doesn't feel like a muscle spasm..
Unlikely: 11 weeks is a bit early, even if you've been pregnant before. More likely to be something else. Is it painful? Cramping? Is it regularly moving? Could be round ligament pain/tenderness, muscle spasm (still possible even if it doesn't feel like that, things get stretched out in pregnancy and things feel different), gas bubbles, etc. You can talk to your doc if worried. Organize your meds: Don't double-up if you've missed a dose. To prevent this from happening again, keep your medications organized. For example, you could use a pill box. Doubling up will cause alterations in the concentration of baclofen in your system, which can have serious side effects. See your physician for further discussion. Http://www. Patientresource.
